More character meme, because I LOVE it! This time with Special Guest Appearance!

1. Choose a few of your own characters.
2. Make them answer the following questions.
3. Feel free to go ahead and add some questions yourself!!
4. Then tag three people.

Characters: Bastian, Pele (Special Guest Star courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] caitirin!), Kyrielle, Shio

Bastian is immortal, crusader turned sailor. Kyrielle and Shio are fantasy types; Kyrielle is Adi'eh, aristocracy who live in an underground city, and Shio is Karai Mishra, one of [livejournal.com profile] caitirin's desert elves.

Whee, more characters! )

I love this interests collage meme ^_^ They come up with some annoying things for Shelley, though... many many scantily clad girls and far too few Romantic poets.

Yesterday I went into work at 9:00 because [livejournal.com profile] caitirin's university had a late opening, so we could both sleep late. That meant I had to work until 5:00 instead of my usual 4:15 to make up for the time. Today I had a dentist's appointment in the morning (my teeth are quite healthy, proud to report!) and I left the dentist's at 8:30, thinking I'd be to work at the latest by 8:50 or 9:00 and then I'd just have to stay a little bit later today.

Apparently at 7:30 this morning somebody driving a truck rolled over into the tollbooth about 2/3 of the way between where we live and where I work. At 8:35, I was getting onto the highway for what is normally a 10-minute ride to work. I was perplexed that there was so much traffic that the flow of cars was practically stopped right after I got on.

At 9:15 I was still a mile from the tollbooth.

That stretch of road can't be more than five or six miles, and I went it doing 5 mph the whole way. So much for getting to work on time.

So I stayed at work until 5:15, and if I stay until 5:15 tomorrow, I'll have made the time up. And when I came home, Caitirin had wonderful delicious wife soup cooking on the stove for me! <3

Now for that meme.

[livejournal.com profile] caitirin gave me A for a letter :)

10 Things I Like That Begin With "A"

A is for anime, art form I love,
full of angst and improbable hair.
A is for Akio, that "kind of bad" man,
who lives in a phallic-shaped lair.
A is for Amber, the one place that's real,
where all of the siblings connive.
A is for Axel, a bad-ass redhead
who loves Roxas (I hope he survives).
A is for angst, which I love to read,
and also to watch and to write.
A is for Adriel, a character of mine
who has dreams of Mirai at night.
A is for Annabel Lee, the dead girl
who Poe wrote lay cold by the sea.
A is for aventurine, grass-colored stone,
that could help inspiration flow free.
A is for Angela Aki,
Who did a cover of "All Eyes on Me".
And A is for asparagus,
to which [livejournal.com profile] caitirin just says "Yucky!" XD

You know, Weiss Kreuz songs are either sublimely awesome or suck harder than a new Hoover. There's no in-between.

Disney Princess meme taken from [livejournal.com profile] queen_lily_rose :)

Bold the ones that apply to you )

Heh, I guess Belle it is :) I always liked her, but I liked her because she's NOT a princess. Or at least she doesn't start out as one. I guess marrying the Beast makes her one?

Speaking of which, I'm reading Robin McKinley's Rose Daughter right now, and HOMG. If I could write like that, I'd call myself talented. Every line is beautifully crafted. The whole thing is just incredibly beautiful. I haven't even got that far into it. It's really incredible. I liked The Hero and the Crown and The Blue Sword very much, but there's a charm about Rose Daughter that they don't compare to. The styles are very different, and Rose Daughter's style appeals to me much more. It's lovely.

Anyway! I should be writing!

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] hak42! I hope you have a great day and that you feel better :)

Glockgal's Fanartist Love Meme! Go pile love on your own art and other artist's art!

I are sick. *coughack* I'm not quite sure what's up with me, but I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon and I have the day off tomorrow to get another type of doctor's appointment if I need to, so I should be okay.

They offered the job at the Humanities Center to someone else. Apparently they had ninety people apply, and they chose someone with extensive fundraising experience. Oh well. I've got an interview for an admin assistant at another place on campus next Tuesday (hopefully I'll feel better by then!). I'm disappointed, but not crushed. The job might have been somewhat out of my league anyway, at this point in my career. *shrugs* Such is life!

OMG, Mr. Rogers is on.

Find your 42nd entry ever. Yes, this may require some counting and basic math. Deal with it. Link to that entry in a new entry. This is the meaning of your life.

The 42nd post in my LJ, which was actually a post I moved over from my DeadJournal, is about me reading Beowulf in British Lit when I was a sophomore and being amazed at all of the things that obviously influenced Tolkien. The post is here. It's not remarkable, other than me being like "I like British Lit!" Go figure, that.

I should probably find the 42nd entry after I moved over to LJ too. Here it is! It's about the Weiss Kreuz Gluhen series and how all of Schwarz's character designs were changed (in the most hilarious ways XD) I HOPE that's not the meaning of life. I'd rather it be British lit. Here's the post.

I had a whole review of manga Hamlet written last night, and for some reason it wouldn't post to LJ then or this morning before work. Oh well! I'll do it when I get home. *at [livejournal.com profile] caitirin's library now as was let out of work early wheeeee*

I've finished my first drabble response for the First Kiss Meme. It's for [livejournal.com profile] dakegra to thank him for manga Hamlet squee :) His request was "Molly and the Cute Barista" both of whom belong to [livejournal.com profile] dakegra.

---

“It’s really been the worst morning,” the cute barista said apologetically to Molly as the two of them knelt behind the counter, mopping up cinnamon latte with paper towels.

MAN, am I ever boring in my LJ lately. Sorry, guys O_o

First day of moving tomorrow! Cannot WAIT to be out of here. Last night we came home from seeing Miss Saigon (SO good) at around midnight and there were several young children (like between the ages of 6 and 12) running around outside screaming their heads off. With some parental unit-like people standing in the doorway and smoking/drinking. At MIDNIGHT. Then the people downstairs insisted on having very loud conversations with laughter and such, loud enough to be heard word-for-word in the living room, at about 1:00 am and probably continuing. I went to bed and couldn't hear them from in there, but still.

So glad to be moving.

New icons! Do I ever have new icons!

I've been tagged!

Rules: Post the explanation of where your username came from. Then tag up to ten users whose explanations you'd like to hear. If you are tagged post the explanation as a comment to this post and in your own LJ.

The name "elaby" comes from Katharine Briggs' Encyclopedia of Fairies: Hobgoblins, Brownies, Bogies, and Other Supernatural Creatures. This is a huge brown book that they had at the library I used to go to all the time before I went to college. I used to crawl up into one of the windows tucked in the stacks and sit on the sill, which was probably about a foot wide. The entry in the encyclopedia was for "Elaby Gathen" and all it said was "a fairy name." I think I construed that it was a name used for summoning/binding, like Rumpelstiltskin. I thought it sounded pretty, so I took it and made it into one of my three billion AOL handles, Elaby Moon. I stuck the "moon" on the end because of Sailor Moon, probably. This was around my junior year of high school. Eventually I dropped the "moon" because I liked the one-word name better, and everyone was just calling me "Elaby" anyway.

I haven't heard the name used anywhere else, unless random internet people make it up or have taken it from the same source I have. Once in a while I'll come across a place (Neopets, for example) where "elaby" is already taken as a username. This is very infrequent, though.

In other news: In case it matters to anyone, I've gone back and friends-locked all of my bits of writing, and I'll be doing that in the future. I don't lock drabbles or fanfic, though, what little of those I actually do.

A short compilation of the last few weeks' dreams, in note form, just so I have a record )

Turn to page 123 in your work-in-progress. (If you haven't gotten to page 123 yet, then turn to page 23. If you haven't gotten there yet, then get busy and write page 23.) Count down four sentences and then instead of just the fifth sentence, give us the whole paragraph.

"Hey," Theo said, interrupting Felix's singing. "I need to talk to you. It's important." The girls gave him a collective nasty glare, but Felix looked surprised and stopped playing.

"All right. Didn't think I'd see you again anytime soon, though." He stood up, gathered the loose coins that were scattered around his feet, and made an elegant bow to the group of girls. "If you'll excuse me, young ladies. Your patronage has more than sustained me through your pretty smiles more than your coins." They giggled. Theo waited impatiently.

-

"Work-in-progress" is used loosely, unfortunately, as I've done a lot of thinking but very little actual progressing since the end of November *shame*

We saw Pan's Labyrinth today. BZUH. It was incredible. Incredibly good, incredibly violent, incredibly thought-provoking, incredibly everything. I'm REALLY glad I got to see it at the theatre (omg thank you [livejournal.com profile] glr1114 and Dad for the movie card!). We saw Ghost Rider the other night, and it was enjoyable, but nothing comparing to this. Not even in the same league, obviously. Also, subtitled films = win.

Downstairs Thumpy Music Dude has quieted down somewhat, but tonight I can hear his music again. It's not as loud as it has been, though. We put a politely-worded note on his door the other day to ask him to keep it down as the walls are apparently thin and we could feel his bass through our floor. I think it worked pretty well. We DO keep getting some crackhead outside in a car with music playing so loud it actually vibrates our windows, though *twitch* But hopefully they won't come back.

XD Holy crap, is this ever apt.

In 2007, elaby resolves to...
Give up close-reading.
Backup my fanfiction regularly.
Apply for a new zoisite.
Overcome my secret fear of medieval romances.
Keep my j-rock clean.
Spend less time on feste.
Get your own New Year's Resolutions:

I WILL give up close-reading! But I will not spend less time on Feste, as he deserves lots of time indeed.

Hmm, must read more Chretien de Trois, I see, to overcome that dreadful fear instilled in me by Malory.

But I like the old Zoisite just fine. And dude, I don't WANT my j-rock clean *laughs*

XD
