[livejournal.com profile] astillac convinced me to do Illustration Friday with her, and I'm wicked excited about it :3 It's a weekly art challenge with a prompt word, and I'm going to be posting them here (hopefully) before the end of Thursday every week. Here's this week's attempt! The prompt was "wilderness".

Caitirin informs me that her name is Lizzie :3

Ooo, I love it! In particular, those puffy sleeves are gorgeous, and the way she blends into the grass...Except for the straw in her mouth, I could totally see her as Alice (as in Lewis Carroll), actually. Though perhaps a slightly older version. Though I also agree with [livejournal.com profile] caitirin, she DOES look like a Lizzie.

Ooh, I never thought of the Alice angle! That's really a cool idea! I can see that too. We have Caitirin to thank for the puffy sleeves as well :)

Thank you, my darling Janie. Have I told you lately that you're absolutely wonderful to me?

Your artwork amazes me. You are the first person I've ever "known" who could draw like an absolute top quality cartoonist. Do you work as a professional cartoonist? If not, you should.

Wow, thank you! *blushes* I haven't done anything professionally art-wise, though I did once submit something to an online magazine that was accepted. I have a long way to go :) I'm really delighted that you like this! Thank you very much for your comment.

Thank you! :D I tend to be very line-art-y... I don't do very much shading. Shading is fun, though, so I should tray!

I like this a lot. :) The trees look very elm-ish (I don't think that's an actual expression, but you know what I mean) and the grass looks deep. I like the details on her dress, and her sleeves and her braid, and her nose! And the hands, always the hands. She does look like a Lizzie.

I love elms, too. We saw something on the news the other night where they were cutting down one of the biggest elms in New England (sadly, it had succumbed to Dutch Elm disease), but that they were going to start planting elms again. So it made me both sad and happy.
