Two amusing things that happened yesterday:

We bought alcohol at the grocery store and we didn't get carded! Holy ZOMG! Let me explain why this is worthy of note. I'm 26, right, so I've been of drinking age for five years. Less than two years ago, people at Disney World asked me what grade I was in, and when we were visiting [livejournal.com profile] caitirin's parents in Colorado, I was told I needed to have a parent or guardian sign a waiver before I could go horseback riding (they thought I was under 18). Just the other week, the 13-year-old girl I tutor told me "You look like you're my age!" I have come to accept that I'm going to get carded at R-rated movies and, obviously, when buying alcohol. I sent [livejournal.com profile] caitirin out to get her license because she left her wallet in the car, despite the fact that she actually looks her age, because they say they card you if you look like you're under 35. But by the time she got back they had already bagged our booze and no mention of IDs was made. Could it be I'm actually starting to look like a grown-up? Surely not!

Last night, around 11:30:

[livejournal.com profile] caitirin and [livejournal.com profile] elaby: *in bed falling asleep, having been such for about a half hour*
[livejournal.com profile] elaby: *GASP*
[livejournal.com profile] caitirin: Buhwuhcatonfire?!
[livejournal.com profile] elaby: No! I'm okay! I just had a Harry Dresden insight!!
[livejournal.com profile] caitirin: ........ *cracks up and squishes [livejournal.com profile] elaby tight* I LOVE YOU!

I've read up to Blood Rites and the first few pages of Dead Beat, and I'm laying there thinking about how the last book was essentially the "undersexed Murphy" book, seeing as they focused a lot on how she wasn't getting any... which made me think of Kincaid, him having taken her pants off during said book, and then about Kincaid's nature and what Harry saw when he looked at Kincaid using his Sight. Great big hulking deformed demon, right, with a double-image of sorts that looked like the image of death, if I recall correctly. And then McCoy explained later that Kincaid is the offspring of a human and a demon, and thus is seriously bad news.

What made me gasp in the night was remembering, early in Blood Rites, how after Kincaid trapped Harry in the circle of salt in his office Harry said something to Kincaid to the effect of "You aren't human," and Kincaid replied, "I'm as human as you are."

DUN DUN DUNNNNNN.

We know Harry's dad was human (well, I think we do). And we know his mother was involved in some Serious Badness. So...

[livejournal.com profile] caitirin responded to this breathless midnight hypothesis with something like "You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment." BWAHA.

Hee! Yay! Thank you ^_^ I LOVE these books, holy cow. They're absolutely mind-bogglingly good. It took me about three of them to realize how great they were, and now I'm hooked for life.

Ahahaha catonfire.

:D

I never *got* carded for alcohol. I once held a conversation with a police officer while I certainly had alcohol on my breath and was certainly 19 and near campus, and he just told me to make sure I didn't share any of that with the underage folks in the area. I'm pretty sure now that I am pushing 40 this is a disadvantage. Heh.

Ahahaha XD That must have been very convenient at the time! In the same way, I imagine that later I'll be very happy that I look a lot younger than I am. Right now it just amuses me and is occasionally surprising, and makes my friends laugh a lot.

Lord, but being asked for ID is possibly the most annoying thing in my life. I'm 23 and in this great country of mine I've been of legal drinking age for six wonderful years. I still get ID-ed every. damn. time. Most annoying.

I am unqualified to comment on your marvellous insight, but [livejournal.com profile] caitirin's Urquhart channeling is met with my heartfelt approval!

Plus, sleepy late night insights? Best things ever!

Yes! Caitirin, I believe, will be quoting Urquhart for the rest of our days XD I do it at every opportunity too *grins*

I'm just so used to being questioned about my age that I'm totally boggled when it doesn't happen!

I feel you with regard to the alcohol carding. sjdfagerheh. You only have to be 18 here to buy alcohol, and I still get carded. I'm 22 on Monday and people think I look 17? When will this end?!

You and [livejournal.com profile] caitirin are so cute; that story made me squee a bit. Bless you. &hearts &hearts

Lol to not getting carded :) My mom has had the same problem--she looks younger than her age and so people wouldn't take her seriously. However, it has its compensations as one gets older...;)

I figure it will! I'll probably appreciate it more when I'm older :)

Truly amazing! You have the "get carded" genes, as we both were getting carded well beyond when we should have. The last time I got carded I think I was ... um ... 38, and had lots of grey in my hair.

Ahahaha, that's wonderful! I don't find it annoying, just kind of amusing, so it can continue as long as possible XD

I'm 36 and I still get carded occasionally. The last time it happened I laughed at the poor guy (I couldn't help it, he was so serious about it!), who then looked very embarrassed to see the 1973 on my license...

Hee! That's wonderful! That happened to me, sort of, when I got carded going to an R-rated movie, and [livejournal.com profile] caitirin laughed at the little cashier who was much younger than we were. I offered to go to the car to get my license, but he let us in anyway XD
