Two amusing things that happened yesterday:

We bought alcohol at the grocery store and we didn't get carded! Holy ZOMG! Let me explain why this is worthy of note. I'm 26, right, so I've been of drinking age for five years. Less than two years ago, people at Disney World asked me what grade I was in, and when we were visiting [livejournal.com profile] caitirin's parents in Colorado, I was told I needed to have a parent or guardian sign a waiver before I could go horseback riding (they thought I was under 18). Just the other week, the 13-year-old girl I tutor told me "You look like you're my age!" I have come to accept that I'm going to get carded at R-rated movies and, obviously, when buying alcohol. I sent [livejournal.com profile] caitirin out to get her license because she left her wallet in the car, despite the fact that she actually looks her age, because they say they card you if you look like you're under 35. But by the time she got back they had already bagged our booze and no mention of IDs was made. Could it be I'm actually starting to look like a grown-up? Surely not!

Last night, around 11:30:

[livejournal.com profile] caitirin and [livejournal.com profile] elaby: *in bed falling asleep, having been such for about a half hour*
[livejournal.com profile] elaby: *GASP*
[livejournal.com profile] caitirin: Buhwuhcatonfire?!
[livejournal.com profile] elaby: No! I'm okay! I just had a Harry Dresden insight!!
[livejournal.com profile] caitirin: ........ *cracks up and squishes [livejournal.com profile] elaby tight* I LOVE YOU!

I've read up to Blood Rites and the first few pages of Dead Beat, and I'm laying there thinking about how the last book was essentially the "undersexed Murphy" book, seeing as they focused a lot on how she wasn't getting any... which made me think of Kincaid, him having taken her pants off during said book, and then about Kincaid's nature and what Harry saw when he looked at Kincaid using his Sight. Great big hulking deformed demon, right, with a double-image of sorts that looked like the image of death, if I recall correctly. And then McCoy explained later that Kincaid is the offspring of a human and a demon, and thus is seriously bad news.

What made me gasp in the night was remembering, early in Blood Rites, how after Kincaid trapped Harry in the circle of salt in his office Harry said something to Kincaid to the effect of "You aren't human," and Kincaid replied, "I'm as human as you are."

DUN DUN DUNNNNNN.

We know Harry's dad was human (well, I think we do). And we know his mother was involved in some Serious Badness. So...

[livejournal.com profile] caitirin responded to this breathless midnight hypothesis with something like "You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment." BWAHA.
