You know you grew up on the coast when, having lived away from said coast for six straight years, you hear a train whistle in the morning and look out the window and go "... but it's not foggy."

Yes! I hear the train in the night, and I think, "I can hear a boat with a diesel engine going out to sea ... oh, wait."

*snuggles you*

I miss the foghorn, I really do. I expect to hear it when I wake up and see fog.

I love my icon, too. <3 It's so utterly OOC, but this pairing makes for some of the prettiest fanart that I've seen.

I think OOC pairings are definitely okay in some circumstances ^_^

you know how long I've been away from my hometown.

Sometimes when I see a long row of traffic going by when the way I'm going is pretty empty I think "oh, the Ferry let out..."

Well, then you'd feel at home in our house...we have commuter trains that stops at the Town of Quantico and Marine Corps Base, which is about 2 miles from us, and they have to whistle at the crossing. You hear it more during the winter and on dry days. Once the trees and humidity have their way, it's pretty muted. We didn't even notice it until about 4 months after we moved in. But I can certainly understand how that sound would have close to a Pavlovian reaction about fog! LOL

Hee! We used to live near a train crossing, too, our first apartment, and it rattled stuff when it went by XD
