You know, sometimes I think that people are sane, and then I read about something like this.

CDD - Christian Domestic Discipline.

[[Sorry, insert moment of further WTF - watching Smallville after having not seen it for several years, WHAT, Lex is in love with Lana? WHAT, Lionel is DEAD? SAY IT AIN'T SO.]]

Anyway. Back to the Domestic Discipline (I'm leaving the Christian out of it for the rest of it because the people I consider "real" Christians are not crazies, kthnx, and while religion figures into this, weird-ass gender issues are more what I'm going WTF-ing about).

A few quotes from the Frequently Asked Questions by Men page.

"Why does my wife want to be spanked?

Because she needs to feel that you are in charge and because she has been acting in less than a way a proper wife should.

Do I have to spank her to tears?

Yes, by spanking her to tears you are allowing her to fully submit and be humbled for her actions.

What if I am mad, could I hurt her?

If angry at the time, put her in the corner and take that time to cool down, once you have gotten control of your anger then spank her.

Can't I just listen to her instead ?

No, she has all the girlfriends she need to listen to her, she needs you to be strong and correct her behavior.

*mouth hangs open as she continues to read through the website*

I don't want to believe this is actually real, but it can't all be some kind of parody. If only. Holy crap, this is some scary shit.

For added rage, also see Why My Daughter is Not a Girl Scout, because Girl Scouts support such horrors as short hair, feminism, Planned Parenthood, and *gasp* lesbianism. It also suggests that telling your daughter that she's just as valuable as a boy is comparable to putting her in the KKK.

My eyes! Instead, I must flood my mind with thoughts of the Queen Elizabeth movie that's coming out tomorrow. The two seconds of Geoffrey Rush in the commercials is enough evidence of a man's submission to a woman to make these CDD people's brains fizzle.

Also, Cate Blanchett in plate mail. Also, Geoffrey Rush. *swoon* I should watch the first one again.

This reminds me so much of A Doll's House, which I saw again last night at the Johnson Theater at UNH. Throughout the whole thing, as much as the characters' motives, I was mesmerized/ repulsed by the sheer tonnage of mysogyny in that show, or at least the times it protrays. Torvald's treatment of Nora as his own personal plaything, his expressed view of her as his wife _and_ daughter as she could not possibly deal with any aspect of reality as a woman... It was truly difficult to watch. I would be surprised not to see someone write an article in TNH about how absolutely offensive it is despite the fact that it is a portrait of people, particularly Nora, but also others, who are faced with this reality and forced to make hard choices about how to change their lives. I'm about to start rambling, so I'mma stop. Sometimes the right of free speech is just wasted, to bring this full circle back to you post... those people, raising children... ugh

I haven't heard of that play, but it sounds really disturbing. And yeah, I always have mixed feelings about free speech, because it's such a touchy subject.
