You know, sometimes I think that people are sane, and then I read about something like this.

CDD - Christian Domestic Discipline.

[[Sorry, insert moment of further WTF - watching Smallville after having not seen it for several years, WHAT, Lex is in love with Lana? WHAT, Lionel is DEAD? SAY IT AIN'T SO.]]

Anyway. Back to the Domestic Discipline (I'm leaving the Christian out of it for the rest of it because the people I consider "real" Christians are not crazies, kthnx, and while religion figures into this, weird-ass gender issues are more what I'm going WTF-ing about).

A few quotes from the Frequently Asked Questions by Men page.

"Why does my wife want to be spanked?

Because she needs to feel that you are in charge and because she has been acting in less than a way a proper wife should.

Do I have to spank her to tears?

Yes, by spanking her to tears you are allowing her to fully submit and be humbled for her actions.

What if I am mad, could I hurt her?

If angry at the time, put her in the corner and take that time to cool down, once you have gotten control of your anger then spank her.

Can't I just listen to her instead ?

No, she has all the girlfriends she need to listen to her, she needs you to be strong and correct her behavior.

*mouth hangs open as she continues to read through the website*

I don't want to believe this is actually real, but it can't all be some kind of parody. If only. Holy crap, this is some scary shit.

For added rage, also see Why My Daughter is Not a Girl Scout, because Girl Scouts support such horrors as short hair, feminism, Planned Parenthood, and *gasp* lesbianism. It also suggests that telling your daughter that she's just as valuable as a boy is comparable to putting her in the KKK.

My eyes! Instead, I must flood my mind with thoughts of the Queen Elizabeth movie that's coming out tomorrow. The two seconds of Geoffrey Rush in the commercials is enough evidence of a man's submission to a woman to make these CDD people's brains fizzle.

Also, Cate Blanchett in plate mail. Also, Geoffrey Rush. *swoon* I should watch the first one again.

It is my very horrified understanding that this is a very real thing. Yeah. Wow.

"this overwhelming coldness and oppression I recognized at once as originating from Satan. ... As a mother who’d helped her daughter sell Girl Scout cookies for several years, I was crushed. Had my efforts been going toward killing babies?" When/if (but most likely when) Julie is a girl scout THAT will be our selling pitch: "Buy a cookie, kill a baby!!!"

"encouraging field trips to Planned Parenthood." Because all lesbians need abortions (which seems to be her only gripe about PP... I know it is other things. Just re-harping the idiocy.)

"my husband absolutely forbade it" The day Joe "forbids" something is the day I either divorce him or go to jail for assault.

Gee, now we know why you and Caitirin are married. She was a girl scout? o.O WTF? That website made my head hurt (and I've seen the "discipline" website before)

XD!!

XD!!!!!!!

Yes, surely Caitirin's 13-year career as a Girl Scout turned her into a lesbo! Weirdly, it only took me 3 years.

Oh, if you'd been a girl scout for 13 years you would have had to go off and kill men, never shave, bind your breasts and other gender-hating actions?

That's horrible. So much ignorance and bigotry in the name of religion.

I've got nothing against spanking if two adult partners mutually consent to it, but to present it in such a misogynistic fashion, as the right of the husband as lord and master and the duty of the wife is just sickening.

Date: 2007-10-12 10:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] elaby.livejournal.com
Yes, exactly! They mention consenuality, but it's overpowered by the misogyny. It's like an afterthought.

Is it truly consensual when the wife essentially isn't given a choice in the matter? It's essentially emotional blackmail when you bring Jeebus into the picture.

To me the consent stops when they agree that he can "punish" her when he sees fit. I'm sorry, I love Joe but one/both of us would be in the hospital if he tried to punish me... ever.

Why did no one tell me Girl Scouts taught you how to be a lesbian? I'm sure I could have used a few pointers in my younger days. D'y'think Girl Guides would have worked that lesbian magic too? Darn it, I should have been a better Brownie and gone up to the Guides to find out. Now I shall never know.

But did you see the faux mediaeval chivalric programmes for boys and girls on that website? I dunno what it is about all that sort of thing, but it makes me a mite uneasy. And what it it with fundamentalists and sex, they're obsessed with it? I'm sure I don't think about doin' the nasty half as much as they do.

This is the sort of thing that makes British Christians wonder if their American counterparts are reading out of the same Bible. Honestly. :-/

I'd hate to make the assumption that all crazy fundamental groups are confined to America, though.

The Christians I personally know over here are wonderful, completely rational people :)

That's encouraging to hear. :-) I do actually have at least one American Christian on my friends list who is entirely sane, but one hears so much about the, er, eyebrow-raising kind that it's nice to get a balance!

Crazy religious nuts are not limited to America by any means.

And those people aren't reading the bible, they're reading select lines and ignoring the rest, which doesn't count.

"Buy a cookie, kill a baby!!!"

I'll take four.

If Girl Scouts makes you lesbian, then what about Boy Scouts? Should I be going after Rich and Paul now?

Or does all scouting make you somewhat more masculine in gender? Should I be a shining beacon of testosterone?

Mwha?! *am laughing incredulously here* OMSweetG, that is some freakiness happening there. OK, it's true that some Christians are into spanking. And maybe the name of God even gets shouted during said act. But it's really not a faith issue; it's a kink, ne?

And about the Girl Scouts -- that poor organization just can't please anybody, it seems. Others accuse them of being too Christian. It just proves that when you get too extreme in your idealogy, you essentially become a cult member and nobody can possibly be pure enough for you.

I was in the Girl Scouts. Can I blame them for my kinks? ^_^ The ones that aren't faith practices, that is? :D

Maybe some fundamentalists are just into BDSM (which I consider a normal variant of human sexual expression), but don't want to admit it to themselves or to anyone else, so they've come up with this weird weird justification for it.

Now ... if they start opening clubs for this sort of thing ...

Jesus totally WAS a feminist! I bet the people on that site wouldn't want to hear that XD

It is laughable, and scary at the same time. I have no idea where they are O.o It didn't occur to me that they were in America until [livejournal.com profile] miss_next's comment.

I don't personally know any crackpot Christians. I think it's just that Christianity is a majority in America, and so there's more chance for there to be crazies among them, as there are with any group anywhere.

Forgive my long response as I am bored! And, that was just too O_O not to comment on.

There are way too many WTF quotes on that website. I spent the last ten or so minutes reading through the various articles! I was laughing the entire time... until I realised that it was probably meant to be taken seriously. Just... wow.

One of the articles I found amusing/scary talked about how "christian" women should wear dresses, and the woman who wrote it mentioned feeling more "christ-like" in a dress/skirt. And, I can't help but picture Jesus in drag... O_O Then she talks about how she goes commando or wears... dare I say, crotchless pantaloons... to be more "available" to her husband...

I also like the disclaimer on the front page... Though we recognize by its very nature this subject can be erotic, we will keep this website as clean and wholesome as possible. However, we will not seek to deny the erotic nature of some CDD marriages as we believe it is a natural consequence of following God's plan. After all, He created eroticism to be enjoyed inside a Christian marriage.

Which... makes me think that they're neither denying or confirming the "christian" value of BDSM. Now I'm thinking of Jesus in drag with a ballgag and whip...

If I wasn't before, I'm surely now going to hell if there is one. Q_Q

This reminds me so much of A Doll's House, which I saw again last night at the Johnson Theater at UNH. Throughout the whole thing, as much as the characters' motives, I was mesmerized/ repulsed by the sheer tonnage of mysogyny in that show, or at least the times it protrays. Torvald's treatment of Nora as his own personal plaything, his expressed view of her as his wife _and_ daughter as she could not possibly deal with any aspect of reality as a woman... It was truly difficult to watch. I would be surprised not to see someone write an article in TNH about how absolutely offensive it is despite the fact that it is a portrait of people, particularly Nora, but also others, who are faced with this reality and forced to make hard choices about how to change their lives. I'm about to start rambling, so I'mma stop. Sometimes the right of free speech is just wasted, to bring this full circle back to you post... those people, raising children... ugh

I am constantly amazed by certain groups' ability to use the bible to defend any and all behaviour they find permissible, and condemn any behaviour they do not. Then again, I was in the Girl Guides, so no doubt I've been brainwashed whilst funding baby genocide.

Sheesh. You know what dude? If you and your wife are into spanking, more power to you as long as it's consensual. Just don't pretend that Jeebus told you to do it - I don't think he had much to say on the matter, pro or con.
