Another of the First Kiss challenge drabble-type things. This one is for [livejournal.com profile] jiatra :) Er, it's not so fantastic... sorry, Jia :\ The Utena/Ophelia one will be better. I've got a draft of that one already.

Elizabeth Swann and Captain Kirk
Words: 570
Notes: As I haven't seen the new PotC movie yet, there are no spoilers for that. Or for anything, really, except maybe this takes place sometime during the beginning-middlish of Dead Man's Chest. *shrugs* At any rate, there's no attempt to stick to the timeline, and only a very small attempt at explaining what Kirk is doing in 18th century Port Royal.

--

Elizabeth wasn’t sure how the man got there, but he was wearing the strangest clothes she had ever seen: there was practically nothing to them, just plain, stretched cloth trousers and a shirt with a tiny insignia on the breast. The sleeves were decorated with a gold band or two, but other than that, his outfit was strangely devoid of ornamentation. He had called himself “Captain” when he introduced himself, but he wore neither a hat nor a frock coat nor any sort of pins or epaulettes to signify his rank. He also talked funny.

But at least he was someone to talk to. Will was off rescuing Jack again, and again had insisted she stay behind in Port Royal. She’d been taking a stroll on the docks when this man just appeared from around a corner, muttering about trajectory and sun flares and all sorts of strange things that made her think he’d perhaps escaped from the local lunatic asylum. When he noticed her, though, he was all charm.

“What’s a lovely young lady like yourself doing down here amongst the sailors?” he asked after they introduced themselves.

“Waiting for a ship,” Elizabeth replied dismally.

The man gave her a sly look. “It wouldn’t happen to be called the HMS Enterprise, would it?”

“No,” Elizabeth said flatly. “The Black Pearl.”

“I haven’t heard of it,” Kirk said. Elizabeth found herself unsurprised. “Why are you waiting for it, anyway?” he continued in a conversational tone.

“My fiancé’s aboard it,” she said, half to make it quite clear that she was engaged and half reproachful that said fiancé was there and not here. Kirk looked only slightly disappointed and not at all put off, and the disappointment lasted only a few seconds before his expression turned opportunistic.

"So this fiance of yours is off adventuring the seven seas and has left you here to fend for yourself?"

Elizabeth wasn't sure whether to feel irritated or vindicated. "It isn't like that," she said, and found herself wondering why she felt the need to defend Will. "He's doing something important, and he's very concerned for my welfare, so he insisted I stay here."

"As much as I hate admitting it," Kirk said, and Elizabeth thought he meant exactly the opposite, "'Concerned for your welfare' is often male code for 'I don't think you'd be able to take care of yourself in the dangerous wilds beyond home.'" Elizabeth made a valiant effort not to bristle indignantly, but from Kirk's satisfied reaction, she guessed she hadn't been successful. "You'll wait for him, of course," Kirk went on. "I can see you're that kind of woman."

"Yes, I am," Elizabeth quickly assured him, then frowned, not positive she had wanted to agree to that.

"I could help you find ways to pass the time more quickly," he said, hooking his arm around her waist. Elizabeth sized him up with some annoyance but didn't push away. He was reasonably good-looking, for someone so audacious and who dressed so strangely. "There's a little cafe on Bevarion III I'd love to show you, but I'm afraid here will have to do. Is there anywhere we can--" Elizabeth shut him up by kissing him firmly on the lips. He talked too much.

As Kirk dipped her backwards, Elizabeth thought seriously about starting to live by the adage 'If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with.'

I'd have to agree with that.

I say 'pssssh!' to your disclaimer. That was very good; you wrote Elizabeth particularly well. Excellent, excellent! :D *claps*

Actually, yes! I'd dump silly old Will for Kirk any day, if only on account of the cooler costume. ^__^
