June Nano and X3

First day of Nano's count is at 2,500 something words, and I'm excited about writing, which is more than I can say about last November! Also, for the first time since 2003,
caitirin and I stayed up until midnight on the first so we could start RIGHT then. We went for about an hour and a half and then collapsed into bed.
Yesterday was filled with all sorts of excitement, such as a trip to the Federal Building to get
caitirin some necessary financial aid objects, lunch at Flatbread with the best pizza EVER (seriously), some grocery shopping, and then X-Men 3 *tempted to use the :3 face because that's what X3 reminds her of*
The movie was really cool. I realized about fifteen minutes into it, however, that I'd never seen the second movie... which posed a bit of a problem, since I had no idea what everyone was so upset about ^^;; We rented the first two last night and watched the second one, so things made more sense in light of that. I have very little knowledge of the comic, so I have some questions for those in the know:
- Why is Charles Xavier in a wheelchair? This may have been explained in the first movie, but I don't remember much of THAT, either. I'll be watching it tonight, though.
- Why isn't Gambit in the movies? Was there ever any explanation for this?
- What's up with Erik's concentration-camp-like number tattoo?
- Are Charles and Erik not everyone's favorite older Shakespearean actor OTP, or what? (slightly rhetorical question)
Anyway, I really liked X3. There were, as
dakegra pointed out, plenty of plot holes (omg alliteration) but I really enjoyed it nonetheless. I also think the last 2 seconds of the film were BRILLIANT. And of course, the stay-through-the-credits bit :)
Now to work! I want to post Auber sometime today.
[edit: And happy birthday to
ketsuki! Joy and Pocky to you ^_^ ]
[edit the second: I declair it "Stabby!Anthy icon time."]

Date: 2006-06-02 12:47 pm (UTC)Charles has always been in a wheelchair with regard to X-Men, right from the first X-Men comic book. He's a parapalegic.

Not all characters from the X-Men lore have been used. Probably because the moviemakers had plenty of characters to deal with as it was. Warren Worthington III (Angel) was only barely included in X-Men III -- and he was one of the original X-Men!
- What's up with Erik's concentration-camp-like number tattoo?
I didn't remember this from the days I used to read X-Men comics, but apparently his having been a prisoner at Auschwitz was established during the '80s (I dont' believe I was reading them at that point).

Aah, I see. I thought it was some kind of mutant-camp angst thing. Thanks :)

If my brain were to go to slashy places that first scene at Jean's house might have gone there...
But we don't go slashy places with Patrick Stewart because he is Mine! All Mine!
