New laptop casing
Feb. 22nd, 2009 04:00 pmSome of you may have remembered that the casing on my laptop (the plastic plate around the keyboard) was cracking and bits kept coming off. Well, I took it down to the Apple store at the North Shore Mall in Peabody (and saw
i_am_sassafras! Yay!) and asked them if there was anything they could do about it. They took it and within two hours replaced the plate :) My keys feel different, too (rougher) so I wonder if they also replaced the keys. Anyway, it's shiny and clean and not cracked now. And speaking of clean, when I was at the store being helped, this conversation took place *giggles*:
Mac Genius: *scans ID code on computer* Whoa! This is a 2006!
elaby: Yeah...
Mac Genius: I would've sworn it was a 2008! Good god, do you ever use this?
elaby: Every day ^^;;
caitirin: She treats that thing like a newborn baby.
Mac Genius: I'll say. *turns to other Mac guy helping customers* Hey dude, look at this! It's a 2006!
Other Mac Genius: Pssht, no way.
Mac Genius: Yeah way! I thought it was a 2008!
Other Mac Genius: Seriously? How do you keep it that clean? People come in here with the "yellow version"...
elaby: ^^;; I'm really careful with it.
Really really careful with it, apparently XD

Mac question
Oct. 15th, 2007 10:10 pmYet another Mac question!
How do I set something as my default program to open a kind of file with? I tried going to "Open With" and then clicking the "Always Open With" checkbox, but that seems to be specific to that one file and not to all files with the same extension. I figured it would be in some kind of Finder preferences and not in the program's preferences, so I haven't slogged through those yet. I tried Finder Help and came up with nothing, though I may be using wrong search terms. I figured I'd ask my all-knowing f'list first :)
In other news, there's nothing new on the cool job front, but I was asked for additional information, so I think that's a good sign. We leave for Florida (EEEEE!) in five days.
And Nano starts in half a month!
So far, my plans for Nano include:
-Fisher(wo)men
-Dragons

Yet another Mac question
Sep. 9th, 2007 10:17 pmAnother Mac question: I'm using Yahoo! Messenger version 3.0 beta 1 for Mac OS X. Is there any way to make it so that my IMs are visually configured the way they were in older versions and in the Windows versions - that is, to make it so that the messages go UserName: "Blah blah blah" instead of the comments being in bubbles like in comic books?
Also (and more importantly) is there any way to save IM transcripts? I've been poking around using Google and I haven't found any way to do so. I looked at something called Chat Transcript Manager 1.0 that I found on VersionTracker.com, but the reviews say it doesn't support Yahoo IM. I really want to be able to save my chats if I'm doing RPG stuff or something.
Suggestions? Should I just start using AIM or something? I seem to remember trying to get AIM to work but being unsuccessful. Most of my friends use Trillian, so I don't think it'd be a big deal if I started using something other than Y!M.

iTunes questions
Sep. 2nd, 2007 06:07 pmI'm having some duplicate song issues with my iTunes, and I think it's because I don't really know how to work it. So here are some questions for those more informed than I:
[EDIT: Figured out the duplicate problem, through a remarkable train of logic that made me smack my forehead and go "DUH." Would now just like answers to the first question, for curiosity's sake if nothing else.]
1 - I have two folders full of all of my music on my hard drive. One is a folder called Music, in the left hand side of my Finder window and also under my my name (the one with the little picture of a house next to it). The other is a folder called iTunes Music, in a folder called iTunes, which itself is in my Music folder.
What are these? Does iTunes create a new copy of every song when I import it into iTunes and stick it in this folder? What happens if I delete one set?
