Food adventures
Jan. 13th, 2006 12:55 pmToday's food discovery is that making a bagel at home is NOWHERE near the 12 points they tell you a bagel with cream cheese or lox costs.
The bagel I had was probably a "large" bagel, which is defined as 4 1/2 inches across, though I think it was probably more like just 4 inches. That was 3 points, according to the Weight Watchers book. Also according to that book, Neufchatel cheese (which we had for a recipe but decided not to use it) is 1 point for 1 tbsp or 1/2 ounce, the same as I figured out from the slider and nutrition information. 1 whole ounce was plenty for both halves of my bagel, and as far as I can tell, Neufchatel cheese tastes exactly like cream cheese. It just has a whole lot less fat. I dunno what the difference in taste is supposed to be, but I sure couldn't tell.
So, I had a great everything bagel (it says any kind of bagel is the same amount of points) for 5 points.
*dances*
ETA: I read the freaking book wrong, and a HALF a bagel is 3 points. So I had an 8-point lunch. *sigh*

Date: 2006-01-13 06:19 pm (UTC)Very cool!
I looked it up and aparently the only difference is that Neufchatel is less fat. There are legal FDA restrictions on fat content and so cream cheese has more and neufchatel has less and that is the ONLY difference.
We tease ..because we care. :-)

The names are different, too. Heeeeee!
