At parents' house
Dec. 21st, 2005 04:33 pmHello, everyone! I'm on possibly the slowest connection on the PLANET, and now I understand why my mother is going nuts up here from lack of internet. Good GOD. Do you know how long it's taken me to read Megatokyo?
Anyway, I've been having a very nice time. The futons my parents bought for the upstairs bedroom, which act as sofas during the day, are pretty hard, but
caitirin kindly let me borrow her floffy sleeping bag and I've put that between the mattress and the sheets, so it's very comfortable now. It's been a long time since I've slept with kitties :)
I made the bed at about 10:00 (after watching the first episode of Firefly with my mum! Whee!) and went down to brush my teeth. When I came back up, there was a warm spot in the bed, which puzzled me. Then I kicked something furry and Kenshin, our boy cat (who is an incredible wuss) rocketed out of the bed and downstairs. He came up to investigate once I had the lights off, and then left again. Then Mariemaia, our girl cat, came up and started trying to devour my legs, because you see... it's HER futon, and HER room. Usurper that I am, she had to try to oust me. I just stayed still, and she kept biting my legs through all the very thick blankets, then laid atop them like they were a hurt wildebeest. Every so often, she would give them a bite, as if she thought they were about to try and make their escape. She left after a while. Little weirdo.
Today, we went to the town dump (OMG EXCITEMENT!) and over to a furniture store to get me a standing lamp, because I don't like the overhead light in my room. It gives off a subway sort of light, and creeps me out. My mother's making spaghetti sauce from scratch tonight, and my dad and I went out to pick up his hearing aid from the mail so she could wrap presents without us being around. He took me up to the cell phone tower, where there's a building with all this interesting graffiti on it, and on the way, there was the COOLEST forest. It was planted pine trees, and someone had cut all the limbs off them from the ground to about 40 feet up, so you'd look down these corridors of perfectly uniform trees that just went on forever, into darkness. It was awesome. I want to go back and take pictures of it.
When we went out, it was 25 degrees, and when we got back an hour later, it was 5.
