Would you recommend Bram Stoker's Dracula? I've never read it; I only kind-of know the story through watching Nosferatu (which pretty much ripped off Dracula's plot) and the ballet version of the Dracula story.
I have such mixed feelings about Kate Beaton; she seems to be kind of anti-fandom, which irks me, and yet most of her comics are hilarious. Dilemma.
P.S. Did you watch BBC!"Sherlock" last week??? and if so what did you think? Inquiring minds want to know.
I absolutely adore Dracula. It's got its problems, as Victorian writing tends to, but I still love it. The Jack-Quincy-Arthur friend triumvirate is my favorite thing about it, actually. But it's fascinating from all kinds of perspectives! I would definitely recommend it.
I didn't know Kate Beaton was anti-fandom :\ Bummer.
I just saw "Sherlock" for the first time yesterday, actually! I really enjoyed the first episode :D They did such a good job keeping the spirit of the stories while modernizing things. Sherlock prefers texting XD Many of the updates, like John's cell phone being a substitute for his pocketwatch, made me squee with delight.
Cool! I will consider Dracula for my next audiobook download, then.

Well, I mean, I'm not entirely sure of her views; but there is this, and also the footnote to this. Ehhh.
The texting, omg I know right, HILARIOUS. And the reference to 'Rache' from Study in Scarlet does make the Conan Doyle book's 'angry note in German' seem kinda preposterous. Hee! hee hee! (Tell me if you need fic recs, because boy do I got 'em.)

I was totally going "THAT WAS LESTRADE'S IDEA!" when Sherlock was all "Duh, it's Rachel, stupid!" XD *is a dork* Poor book!Lestrade would be so pleased to know that modern writers think his interpretation makes more sense than Holmes's.
