*heaps backlog of sketches onto your f'list*
I haven't scanned stuff in my sketchbooks in what seems like forever! Is actually less than forever. For your patience with my non-cleaned-up, non-color scribblings, I'll reward you with actual Photoshop coloring at the end. It may resemble an acid trip, but it's in color!
[ETA: I just noticed that there must've been a little scrap of paper on my scanner, because it appears in at least four of the pictures. Virtual cookies to anyone who spots it.]
I may kind of <3 Vocaloids, and Miku is my faaavorite. I can't help it! Special thanks go to
astillac and her elbow for letting me use them as a reference.

Miku again. I drew this in a coffee shop with no references, which will explain why the umbrella is somewhat out of step with reality. I'm pretty pleased with it, though, for having no reference. Miku is fun to draw because you don't have to be consistent with how old she looks, what style she's in, or anything like that. As long as she's got the right hair, you can interpret her however you want! This was inspired by the song Melt, in which umbrellas figure. Aww, two-people-beneath-an-umbrella-love.

Konata, reading manga and eating potato chips. Drawing characters all dressed up is fun, but so is drawing them all super-casual and chilling out :) (She's reading Love Mode, though there's no way to tell from the picture.)

This is Kobato, the titular character from CLAMP's manga series Kobato. She's exceedingly adorable and always wears hats. I wanted to try and draw round-eyed girls. The kind of sketchy, fuzzy style was soothing :)

This is
astillac's main character from her graphic novel :D She has the greatest facial expressions, and is mischievous and clever. I like her very much.

Gabriel Collins (mine) and Fox Reeves (
caitirin's) from our space station. Gabe's the doctor and Fox is the station's commander. Fox often shows up in the infirmary late at night demanding a drink. They're BFFs.
Gabe: I do have work to do, you know.
Fox: And I outrank you. Pour.

There's a girl in my head who sings songs I'm listening to, particularly YUKI songs. Her name is Suna. I drew her like a million years ago and then again a couple of weeks ago. She has a different outfit for every YUKI song! And this is one of them XD

Ooh, I really like this one! I wanted to draw a girl wearing geta with modern clothes, because I read that while they're traditionally worn with yukata, they're being seen more and more paired with contemporary clothing. The pose took a lot of making people stand on one foot for me :3 I have the best friends ever.

Now, the promised color picture! I tried to draw clouds. It was really, really fun. Also mind-boggling. Why I didn't start out with something easy like, oh, I dunno, white clouds in a blue sky, I have no idea. I decided pink and yellow and grey was the way to go. I do think they're okay, though :)

Date: 2010-08-02 10:58 pm (UTC)1st Miku pic: Oddly, I like her teeth. Also, her hand (of course!), the details of her outfit, and the happy look on her face. She looks as if she's having a *really* good time.
2nd Miku pic: I really like her boots and the way she looks as if she's posing for a magazine or an album cover or something.
Konata: her socks, and the angles of her feet are a wonder to behold. I also like how she manages to look absorbed in her manga and bored at the same time. And at the way she's eating.
Kobato: Before I read your caption, I thought, This looks like CLAMP!. I like the depth of her eyes and the light fluffiness of her hair.
Gabe & Fox: A grumpy doctor and a commander named Fox! How can you not love them? These two look very much like what I think of as "your" style.
Suna: I love her dress, her sandals, and the movement of the whole drawing, with her hair blowing and her dress billowing just slightly.
I think the girl in the geta is my favorite. I love her pose and her hair and her outfit. I think you should be a fashion designer. :)
The clouds are beautiful. They look like sunset, especially right after a rain, when the sky is still all dark, but the sun is just coming out before it sets.
Oh! and I found the scrap of paper, but on just three of them:
Suna, Gabe & Fox, and 2nd Miku.
