elaby: (Crawford - blood)

So the other day I listened to the Weiss Kreuz Dramatic Image Album IV (part IV is the only one I own, amusingly. I bought it because it's part of the Schwarz story and it has Crawford and Schuldig's image songs). For those of you who aren't anime dorks, a dramatic image album (also called a drama CD) is like a radio play. I'd listened to this one when I bought it, of course, which was sometime probably in my first year of college, but I understand Japanese a lot better now (you know, after three years of classes instead of just what I'd picked up watching anime). Which isn't to say I always know exactly what's being said XD It's pretty easy to figure out what's going on, because the sound effects are rather self-explanatory and there's a lot of stock dialogue (as you would expect from Weiss Kreuz). You know, name-shouting and one-word imperatives and the like. But seriously, I would sit and listen to Okiayu Ryoutarou and Midorikawa Hikaru all day, no matter whether I have any idea what they're saying or not *fans self*

Ahem. Anyway. Here's the a rundown of what goes on, as far as I can tell. I was lucky enough to find a translation of the first half online today (here) and a summary of the second half (here), but I was pretty happy with what I understood on my own.

Context! Gleaned from the above linked websites. Schwarz is in Germany and meets up with a runaway girl from the supernatural-abilities training school they all went to. Farfarello falls in love with her because she's kind to him and holds him when he cries (I'm serious here. Weiss Kreuz is what happens when the badfic is canon.) They take off with the girl because the people trying to recapture her are badass and Schwarz doesn't want to confront them yet.

Crawford, Schuldig, and Nagi discuss something. Schuldig seems to be snarky; Crawford's all "Do what you want," and leaves with Nagi. Schuldig goes off and harasses the girl in the shower. Farfarello busts in and nearly kills Schuldig. Crawford and Nagi arrive, go "WTF is going on here!?", apparently causing Farfarello to drop Schuldig. Farfarello threatens to kill them all if they touch Sally (the girl's name is Sally, I see!).

Crawford: What on earth is the meaning of this?
Nagi: I dunno. It looks like these two are in love.
Crawford: Love?! *completely incredulous tone*

Elaby: *sporfle*

Lemme tell you, there is little funnier than the idea of Schwarz talking about love.

Then pigeons arrive. I don't even know. There's a dude everybody calls "taisa" (colonel) and I think he must train pigeons or something, because he has one named Nina that he talks to. It gets killed, much to his anguish, later on. Some stuff happens involving the police. Schwarz gets into a fight with this Taisa fellow and two people named Sergei and Sylvia (dun dun dunnn) who are obviously trying to get Sally back. Cue lots of tire screetching and gunfire and things blowing up. Crawford comments that Taisa has erected a "psychic barrier". Schuldig says flippant things I don't understand because he uses so much slang. Nagi, who is so adorable I can't stand it, says they have to help Farfarello and Sally.

[Elaby's hopefully accurate interpretation]
Crawford: The colonel won't forgive us.
Schuldig: What should we do, then?
Nagi: The only thing to do is fight! We're all friends, aren't we? [He says "nakama" here, which can mean colleagues or compatriots or friends. It's Nagi, so I'm going with the last one.] Farfarello truly loves Sally!
Farfarello: Nagi...
Sally: Nagi-san!
Schuldig: *snort* Don't make me laugh.
Crawford: I agree with Nagi.
Schuldig: BZUH?!

*giggles* And then Schuldig goes on to say "Are you telling me you intend to fight for love?" (This is where my brain goes: "Ai to seigi no! Seirafuku bishoujo senshi!"*) And Crawford talks about love for a while and uses big words and I wouldn't dare attempt translating him, because he's normally rather abstract. This is all kinds of hilarious, people.

*For love and justice, a pretty soldier in a sailor suit!

Taisa, Sergei, and Sylvia talk for a bit, I'm not sure what about. I think it involves mermaids. No, seriously. Or dolls. There's only a long vowel's difference between the two! Maybe it's a codename. Anyway, stuff starts blowing up; it's Schwarz's fault (surprise, surprise) and then there's more pigeons. Sally apparently offers to give herself up if they'll release Farfarello and "Crawford-tachi".

Taisa *in response*: ...Blah blah blah Crawford-kun blah...

Elaby: *cracks up* Kun? Crawford-kun? REALLY?

And the fighting begins. Screaming, bullets, etc. Nagi continues to assert that he's fighting for his comrades (poor Nagi, he just wants to be loved and he ended up with these guys). Sylvia says something that pisses Schuldig off and they commence kicking each other's butts. Uh, I think she wins *laughs* Schuldig's down and out, anyway, and this sets off Nagi (don't eff with Nagi's friends, people!), and telekinetic explosions result. Taisa's psychic barrier is too strong for him, though, and he gets pitched across the... well, wherever they are, a dock or somewhere. This seems to distress Crawford somewhat (O_o) but before he can do anything, Taisa either slaps him or shoots him with a silencer, I can't tell which. I assume it's the latter. He then shoots Crawford some more, and something disgusting happens to Farfarello. Sylvia impales him with a silver... tsurugi? A broadsword, apparently, which she says is good for killing vampires and werewolves. I think. *waves arms* IDEK! But whatever it is, it sounds incredibly gross. Sally screams a lot and says things that would be touching if this weren't Farfarello we're talking about.

Then - shock and surprise! - Farfarello gets back up! If I thought hearing him being impaled was gross, it's nothing compared to the sound of him pulling the sword out again. Ealgh. The bad guys freak because he was apparently stabbed through the heart (that's our Farf). For the first time in his life he wants to live! He wants to live for Sally's sake!

Crawford: Is this a miracle of love?

Elaby: *spits out drink all over her keyboard*

Apparently he wasn't shot enough times to keep him from making ridiculously out-of-character statements. Schuldig must think so too, because you can hear him start to laugh right there.

[Edit: I was looking back at my old LJ posts about WK, and I found this from May 2004, when I was listening to this drama CD in the car and didn't understand much of what was being said: "Wait, is that Crawford? What did he just say? If he just said 'it's a miracle of love,' I'm going to puke.". *falls off couch laughing*]

Farfarello proceeds to incapacitate the bad guys enough for Crawford to finish them all off. I freaking love Crawford and his politeness; he's all "Well then, Colonel, please excuse us." *shoots him* And then Sylvia! Hahaha, Sylvia. Apparently she and Crawford (and Schuldig?) had something going on in the past, and when he says "Oh, are you still alive?" she's all "I shall now use the sexy anime lady voice on you! Don't you want to be lovers again?"

Crawford: Love? Sylvia, that wasn't love. It was just haisetsu koi.

Okay, guys. Haisetsu means "excrement" or "excretion" and is used in such compound verbs as "toilet training". Most google search results have something to do with enemas. And koi means love. I'll just leave that up to your imagination.

He's such an awful man XD But! Apparently there are some people he's all right with, because the minute they hear the police sirens coming he's all "Farfarello, Sally, get in that boat." And of course Nagi adds, "Leave the rest to us!" Aaw.

Nagi, who really is endlessly adorable, goes on to say "Sally-san, take care of Farfarello." And Farfarello, obviously blown away that these people are actually doing something nice for him, is all halting and awkward and "I can't speak nicely, but... thank... you..." It's really, really (I can't believe I'm saying this) really endearing.

The other three get into a truck (I guess?) and Schuldig is all o_o;; "I think my ears are going bad. What did he say?" and Nagi goes "Farfarello said 'thank you'. It's a miracle of love!" XD Crawford goes on to talk about love, and again I don't have any idea what he says. It's probably pessimistic. God, I love Schwarz.

Hee hee hee! This bit reminds me of (Mel Brooks movie) The Producers, with the former Nazi soldier who keeps pigeons on the roof.

I know nothing about anime, but your post made me laugh.

Oh! and -kun means boy, right?!? Like Domo-kun! Ahahaha, I am so Japanese-illiterate. (I know how to say 'soup' though! 'Soupu'! And I know that L's and R's are not separate phonemes.)

Farfarello is such a cute little name; it makes me think of the Mozart-da Ponte opera Cosi fan Tutte, with Ferrando and Fiordiligi. D'awww.

I love The Producers! Ha, that's right, he did have pigeons :D

Yeah, -kun is an honorific for boys! Usually young ones, and it has a friendly sort of connotation. It's also used for one's inferiors in companies and things, which I'm sure is why this guy called Crawford "Crawford-kun", but it's hilarious because Crawford is neither young nor friendly.

Japanese is such an awesome language :3 Those things that you know about it are important!

Farfarello is such a cute little name

Hee, isn't it? And the character is a complete violent loony, too, so it makes such an interesting contrast.
