elaby: (Hutch - "Lady Blue" *sigh*)

I love this Illustration Friday thing! This week's prompt was "Focus". I drew Hutch :3 I have so had Starsky and Hutch on the braaaain. And I used another SenshiStock picture. Photo references are WIN!

[livejournal.com profile] elaby is a zombie this week. *nods*

Fluffy Hutch is fluffy! I love his hair. Also, bell-bottoms. I LOVE drawing bell-bottoms. When I drew the folds behind his right knee, they reminded me of [livejournal.com profile] glockgal's style, which made me want to squee like a shameless fangirl, and was a good indication that I should stop messing around with it right there. His shirt-front gave me some grief, but I'm pretty happy with it otherwise. Cowboy boots! Sideburns! The 70's are awesome XD

Here's the stock photo I used as a reference: Thank you, Tuxedo Dan!

I do not often comment on your drawing-posts, as I know very little about the visual arts (besides that they is hard, yo) and have little sense of what work goes into making a drawing for those who actually have some artsy abilities, but for this one I had to say:

Hahaha bellbottoms. And the low-heeled boots remind me of Beatle boots or Star Trek boots. (OMG you must draw someone from Star Trek. That would be hilarious.) I also like the diagonal lines on his gun. And the way his hair overlaps his collar! Haha, shaggy 1970s men.

Although or perhaps because my pitiful level of drawing experience consists mostly of having taken a costume design class, I can agree with you: photo references are indeed made of win. (Mostly because, with my skillz, anything drawn without a photo reference is made of fail.) I actually did a pretty good shaded pencil drawing of a ballerina once, from a photo. IT TOOK SO LONG, omgz.

I should totally draw people from Star Trek XD Thank you very much! I'm glad you commented :) Drawing IS hard! I whine all the time while I'm doing it. I totally need a costume design class!

I used to wear bell bottoms. Purple plaid with a purple sweater. I was hot. I think.

Yay! You're so rockin'. You did a fantastic job. I completely forgot to post mine. It was a "take care of Alex's brain" night. I'll get to it today though!

Alex's brain is much more important! Besides, you had several witnesses who will testify that you had it done in time :D Thank you so much!

Would you think it's odd if I said I am absolutely in love with his eyebrow? No? Good. I am absolutely in love with his eyebrow, Ella. And the way you draw hair--which, I can only imagine isn't at all an easy thing to do--consistently blows me away.

n_______n I wouldn't think it odd at all! Because I like it too :3 Thank you so much! That you'd be in love with the eyebrow of anybody I draw is an immense compliment, acushla.

I LOVE drawing hair. I save it for last, along with the face (and then bits I gave up on and have to go back to). I'm so glad you like it :)

One change that I'm consistently seeing in your drawing is that while you have a unique style that is definitely yours, it's always evolving. This definitely looks like Hutch - I wouldn't say "Who's that?" Love the little wisps of hair, the extremely correct wrinkling of the clothes, the hands (of course!) and the gun. And I'll agree quite adamantly with [livejournal.com profile] janeturenne that his eyebrow is quite impressive!

Squeal! Thank you, Mama ^_^ I was hoping you'd like him! And the wrinkles, thank you so much XD

I'm really happy that my drawings evolve while still looking like mine :3 You're such a good reviewer! You say the best things!
