I've been neglecting my LJ! Not in lieu of any other online thingy, because I've been neglecting Twitter, too. Mostly what I've been up to is finishing my Yuletide story and working on Christmas presents for various people who I <3. Also, it appears that the Anglo--Saxons have eaten my brain, and I've been taken by an obsession with the time period between when the Romans left England and when the Vikings started attacking and settling around 800. I still want to write that story, about the two girls, and I'm waiting for an inter-library loan book called Daily Life in Anglo-Saxon England to come in. Work is really, reeeeeaally slow right now, and the weeks have been dragging like nobody's frigging business. I can't wait for Christmas! We're staying here this year, going over to my parents' house, and it's going to be awesome. I get a half-day on the 24th and then Christmas off. Back to work on the Monday after, but oh well. At least Christmas is on a Friday so I actually get a day off for it.
I made black bean soup last weekend, all by myself!
caitirin was working on important things. We usually do it in the crock pot, but I used this awesome electric mixy gadget things that you stick into the soup and press a button and it purees it. It turned out really well :3
Freija has been driving us BONKERS. She keeps trying to get up inside the Christmas tree (you know, alongside her normal antics of tipping over all of our water glasses and trying to climb the walls to attack the smoke detector). We have a spray bottle that we squirt her with, but it only deters her for the moment. We may mail her to Peru.
Temperatures plummeted in the last couple of weeks, but it makes the stars really bright. This is quintessentially us:
elaby: Ooh! Look, Orion! *keeps walking, with face turned up*
caitirin: *takes arm* Careful, there's ice.
elaby: You do realize you'll still have to be doing this when we're eighty, right?
caitirin: I can't wait!
Happy Solstice tomorrow :)
