Gwagh, Nano, what are you doing to me?!

My characters are boring and my plot is full of holes and WHINE.

Two of my characters have blinked out of existence, because they were so godawful boring that I couldn't face writing them anymore. I'm not terribly sad about this, except that I'm more familiar with their type's speech patterns than the characters I'm focusing on now. Oh well. *kicks out Browning and Carew*

Iskander is continuing to be a conundrum. And not an interesting one; just a hard one to write. Tell me what you're thinking, you intolerable pain of a man.

New character appeared! His name is Inspector Rouin and he's from Lancashire, and he is very good for Iskander. I enjoy him. However, when Iskander is not forthcoming, Rouin does not drag things out of him. He shall soon. I hope.

Anjali is far too awesome to be neglected in such ways as she is being. I've resolved to have her run off on her own and meet some people from Faerie.

Plot is plotty and confusing and I'm being made to think of ways to untangle the freakin' mystery while I'm writing, which results in contrivance and The Easiest Answer. With which I am unsatisfied. That is, of course, for editing, but it still makes me go grargh and not want to write anymoooooore.

*small tantrum* *end tantrum*

*glomphugs* Your nano has #cutegaydetectives, and also THAT blanket. Even if the rest of it is as in-need-of-editing as you're afraid it is right this second--which I promise, it isn't--I will still love it forever based on those two facts alone. So there ^_^ I vote for lots more Iskander and Rouin! And tell me about Anjali?

n______n There will be more Iskander and Rouin soon. Anjali has taken over for the moment; she's very discontent with the way things are going in the plot, because she feels like she doesn't have anything to do. Policemen have more ability to go snooping around than middle-class ladies, and she's exhausted the possible meanings of the only clue they have. So she's going to go find out things on her own. :)

I am certain your novel will turn out just fine! In my experience (for what that's worth) it's people who do the best work who are most unsatisfied with their own performance ;)

Best wishes,
Cat

I saw! *glomps* But I don't have headphones and I'm in a coffee shop with loud music! So I'll have to wait to listen until I get home.

All right :) I think you'll enjoy it; the singer's name is Irina Allegrova. She's a well-known Russian singer.

You can do it! I know you can! *waves little go elaby flags*

Your nano will be wonderful and you can worry about pesky little things like plot holes when November's over!

A- You rock.
B- You can do it, because:(see A)
C- I am eager to hear more of this, it sounds intriguing as all heckabetsy.
D- JaneTurenne is right, listen to the Jane.
E- When you're in the middle of something, you can't really see the true shape of it - it's prolly going to be MUCH better than you think.
F- Rinse, return to A, and repeat.

Aww, thank you, Mama :) It should be what Nano is for, but I can't stop wanting it to be perfect the first time!

I totally understand. It would drive me crazy not to be able to stop and revise and stop and revise.

There's the Tom Perotta method, skipping ahead to the next scene you really want to write. Or the big box of colored markers for plot outlines, the drawing of. But really, my best plot detangler ever was talking to my dad one day for about six hours. He happened to have some specialized knowledge that came in handy... and he's a good listener.

If you want a sounding board sometime, I'll volunteer. Anyhow, good luck! It sounds like a great world to dabble your feet in.

Thank you so much :) The skipping ahead thing has worked for me in the past, but I always stubbornly resist it the first time in every Nano. I had to yesterday, though, as a chunk I wrote and e-mailed to myself came through hours late and I had to start a new scene later on. It did help! I also like the markers idea. If I were ever writing about shipbuilding, my dad would be the guy to go to :)
