I just finished watching the first four episodes of House of Cards, a BBC show from the 90's that's essentially RIII* in Parliament. They even make references. Lots of them. It's SO INCREDIBLY GOOD, and I need to write more about it when I'm not falling asleep. But seriously. Ian Richardson is gold, and like eighteen times better than he was as Holmes in the HOUN I reviewed at some point here, and Colin Jeavons is in it and I could seriously listen to him talk for hours. I don't care what he's saying; I just love the man's voice. He plays such a despicable guy XD Well, seriously, they all do. This feeds my love of eeeeevil characters so SO much. It's also got a fair dose of "holy squick!" to go along with it o_o Which I could have done without, but the disturbingness adds to the drama.

*I'm using RIII to distinguish the play from Richard III the historical person.

Okay, Starsky and Hutch quote of the day. They were undercover throughout this episode, Starsky as an Argentine dancing instructor named Ramone and Hutch as a Texan named Charlie who was learning to dance. At the end, the famous old movie star, Ginger something, who owned the dancing studio came in to talk to them at the precinct, incidentally interrupting Starsky's enthusiastic attempts to teach Hutch to dance. After they talked plot, this ensued:

Ginger: I wish you'd come back to the studio. [Lady Starsky was teaching to dance] really misses you. She says nobody dips like Ramone.
Starsky: *eyebrow waggle* *makes some suggestive comment*
Hutch: *rolls eyes*
Ginger: Bye-bye, boys! *leaves*
Starsky: *to Hutch* Nobody dips like Ramone!
Hutch: Nobody's a dip like Ramone. *chuckles, highly amused with self*
Starsky: *grabs him and dips him low, repeating back Hutch's Texan catch-phrase of the episode* If you've got it, flaunt it, boy.

I love them so much I can't even begin to express it.

[edit: Eee, clip of this scene for you! It was made by [livejournal.com profile] enednoviel and I grabbed the icon from [livejournal.com profile] caitirin's user icons page. *gleesplode*

Oh oh, House of Cards so good! I love it almost too much. Urquhart is my most favourite TV villain and yes, Tim Stamper is such a horrible character but I love him too because he's Colin Jeavons and it's not possible for me not to love him.

I would say something more intelligent than that but the essential line is, I love that programme...and yes it also still squicks me after several viewings. I love the squick just a little bit.

P.S. I love that S/H icon!

I'm SO glad you recommended it, because holy cow, it's incredibly awesome. I love Urquhart and his horrible badness so very much, and the bit at the end of the fourth episode where he's all "No freaking comment!!" and I'm like "Whoa O_O Not so unflappable now, are you?" It's SO GOOD. The squick is such an interesting element, too XD

Starsky and Hutch are so incredibly satisfying!

Yeah Urquhart really is one of those delicious bad guys that you know you should hate but secretly (or not so secretly in my case) really love.

The ending was the first thing on TV to actually make me exclaim "OH MY GOD!"

It's funny because in the book it's Urquhart that takes a tumble from the roof garden.

I unfortunately spoiled myself for the end of the first series (and a little of the next, sadly) but I'm watching that now and SO very enjoying it. Urquhart is deliciously evil.

Cool! Yeah, I really love it. It does last well! It didn't seem dated to me, except once in a while because of Mattie's hair scrunchies XD

Starsky and Hutch are just too cute! You're doing a pretty good job of convincing me that I should spend my gift certificate on a few new seasons.

They are seriously the cutest thing I've ever seen!

I think you'd like House of Cards too, incidentally :)

YAY! Oh, I think you will :D It's like a great big ball of bestest-best-friend-love and loyalty and angst and car chases and uninterrupted silliness and really hilarious clothing.

Ooh, no! We haven't gotten to the third season yet. But we're on the last DVD for the second, so we'll be seeing it soon! I can only hope it'll be slashy, from your question?

Ahahaha, we just saw this episode XD The ending was FANTASTIC. I was a little worried for a while what with Starsky and his "Hmf! Gay = weird!" but Hutch's constant eye-rolling made up for it, and that scene just absolutely made my day XD I love this show so very much!

I remember that episode!! *feels old* OMG. Ginger Rogers, maybe?

Heee! It was SO GOOD XD It wasn't Ginger Rogers - I know who she is XD It was a fictional character, I think. Possibly based on Ginger Rogers!

That icon only gets better! My generally overactive imagination is not up to the monumental challenge it proposes...

Waahahaha! And compared to the other people I ship, there's little left up to the imagination in this show. Starsky has goosed Hutch a total of, I believe, three times so far in something like thirty episodes. This episode was particularly good:

Hutch: *as Texan* I can't believe my luck! Somebody pinch me!
Starsky: *behind him, sly look*
Hutch: *jumps* O_O!!!

Yay! I love House of Cards! So good. And I probably use "You may very well think so. I couldn't possibly comment" more than any other quote.

I keep saying that to [livejournal.com profile] caitirin now XD She's probably getting really sick of it. I LOVE the show, though! I can't wait to see more. I have all the DVDs at home right now from NetFlix, and I thought they were all one season, but it turns out they're the whole series! Yay!

So first I thoung, evil characters? I thought richard III's parliament was supposed to be the most enlightened for centuries, like guaranteeing trials before convctions and stuff.

And then I read a little further and thought Richard II's parliament has a Texan in it, and Argentinian dancer with a Spanish name — in like 1360? What universe is this?

And then I thought, whatever universe it is, it's clearly AWESOME, just go with it!

That icon is the most adorable ting I've seen in a long time. Yay!

Also by the way, I just heard there's a version of Pirates of Penzance with Angela Lansbury and Kevin Kline in it, and it makes me hapy just knowing the worl has things like these in it. *hug*

From: [identity profile] elaby.livejournal.com
Hee! That sounds like an awesome universe XD The House of Cards stuff is based on Shakespeare's Richard III, which I've been told by brilliant historicist friends is very historically inaccurate. But awesome nonetheless XD

I think I've seen clips of Kevin Kline in Pirates of Penzance, but I didn't know Angela Landsbury was in it! That HAS to be good.
