I love you, Oxford English Dictionary!

I'm so lucky my wife works at a University and can get me into the OED online. It's so incredibly useful. I'm working on some annotations for [livejournal.com profile] janeturenne's Slasher's Annotated Sherlock Holmes, which is already so darn awesome. I'm doing "The Six Napoleons," and I'm LOVING IT, I tell you. Can I be a professional fan? This is why I went into English Lit in school, by the way, because what I do for fun is try to figure out why such-and-such fictitious character used this phrase instead of that one.

Poor Mr. Rochester never gets his icon used *uses it*

You can join my OED fanclub if you want. Mostly, it's just me, sitting around, reading the OED... sometimes there's caked.

Yeah, I'm a dork :-)

It IS, omg. It's like, let's go through this story and make little notes about which bits are slashy (or just which bits are interesting, actually).

Don't you wish you could have actual paid work that you liked as much? Gods, I do.

Yay! Glad you're having fun with it :) Can't wait to see your notes!

By far the worst thing about having graduated from college (and there are many things I miss about college) is being cut off from the online OED. The fact that it's $300 a year for a private subscription is insane. Silly OED.

Oh, you're doing the Six Napoleons! Brilliant!! (worthy of two '!!' I think)

I do not know where I would be without my OED (hey that rhymes!)

gratuitous use of Six Napoleons icon

You really should write a Sherlock Holmes Companion, and you could get it published and I could buy it and be happy because I love companion books.

*waves to Mr. Rochester*

That would be the funnest thing EVER. It's really too bad that I didn't discover this obsession in grad school, because I could have written all of my papers about Sherlock Holmes XD

I think Mr. Rochester appreciates the attention :)
