My Russian Holmes DVDs arrived today! ZOMG! And I only ordered them on Monday! *totally impressed* We watched the Final Problem/Empty House movie tonight. So, needless to say, expect squee in the near future.

For now, have some random commentary from while we were watching.

True facts. Most adorable Watson EVER. In fact, most adorable Holmes AND Watson ever. Adorableness does not necessarily equal canonocity, but that's really okay. That's what adaptations are for.

I need me some Livanov Holmes and Solomin Watson icons. Does anyone know where I can find some?

I've never actually seen a serious Sherlock Holmes movie, and after your recent posts about them, I think I should get on that. I was planning on buying myself a month or two of Netflix after I finish all my summer applications; would you recommend any in particular (other than this Russian one)?

Also, did you ever see a movie called Without a Clue? It's a silly little farce about how Watson was really the brains behind the whole operation and he hired someone to play Sherlock Holmes (can't remember why), but I remember enjoying it.

Also, true facts, when I read that Sherlock Holmes story with the snake and the whistle I had trouble going to sleep for weeks. (I was only in fifth grade, though.)

I HAVE seen Without a Clue! I LOVE it! Someone gave it to me for my birthday last year, actually :) I just adore it. And yeah, weirdly enough, the Speckled Band (the one with the snake and whistle) was the first Holmes story I ever read, too, in seventh grade! I can totally understand why it would freak you out.

My first suggestion for Holmes media is to get the Granada series with Jeremy Brett as Holmes and David Burke (first two seasons)/Edward Hardwicke (rest of series) as Watson. It's incredibly close to canon, brilliantly acted, and probably the best Holmes visual media I've ever seen. It's the place to start because it's the top of the pile XD I REALLY love the Russian series, but it's not as good all-around. I'd suggest getting the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (five disks) and the Return of Sherlock Holmes (5 disks) as the best of the series.
