Sidney Paget Holmes bases
Nov. 30th, 2008 05:13 pmAnd what do I do now that Nano is over? Holmes icon bases! XD Yay mindless work what makes me happy!
These are 85 bases of mostly Holmes and Watson from Sidney Paget's drawings. The original images came from the University of Virginia's E-Book Library, which has thumbnails Paget's pictures imbedded in the text (the list of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's works with links to what stories they have can be found here: Browse by Author: D).
There are so many of them because I took several crops of most pictures. And soon I will make some real icons with these!

Notes:
014, 015, 016: Can you tell I like this scene?
020, 021: Watson, looking very dashing in his traveling cloak in front of the Grimpen Mire.
037: This is Lestrade. I thought he deserved some icon love XD
042, 044: Holmes in a straw hat = win.
049, 050, 051, 052: Watson at Reichenbach Falls (;_;) and the Falls itself.
063, 064: Holmes listening to a violin concert. So happy!
082: Lestrade again. Looking "nautical" *giggles*
083, 084, 085: I bet you couldn't guess that I like this picture a lot too.
086: There is no 86! D: I used a table generator and I had to do a lot of futzing with the HTML afterwards, and I have no idea what code to take out to make the space for 86 to go away.

Date: 2008-11-30 10:48 pm (UTC)These are some seriously lovely images...and well cut, too! :)
*nudge* So, is it Paget or you who likes Holmes's profile? Not that I'm complaining...*dreamy look*
I mean...28, 31 and...yes. Profiles are just lovely.
Is that Holmes in 55? He looks so young and cute, and 53-54 is even cuter, I'd even say pretty. The mind just boggles :9. (See what you mean about 63-64 too ;)
14, aaaw...it's just missing a little heart in the blank space between. :3 ♥
I want nautical!Letrade's coat. He's not looking half bad there, either ;P

Date: 2008-11-30 11:02 pm (UTC)Hee! I think I'd have to say it's both XD In my opinion, Paget's best drawings of Holmes are in profile. Sometimes when he does face-on Holmes, Holmes looks a bit corpsified O_o But yeah, that's Holmes in 55! Isn't it cute? I love how carefree he looks.

Date: 2008-12-01 11:45 am (UTC)Personally I feel that faces are actually much easier to draw in profile than face-on as well...one only has to draw half as much, after all! XP
Corpsified? Oh my. D:

Date: 2008-12-03 07:48 am (UTC)Nice choice of pictures, and nice job of cropping! The profiles are wonderful. 020 and 021 caught my eye as my favorites immediately for some reason, but I do like 014, 015, and 016 as well as the others you mentioned as well.
These pics are what immediately comes to my mind when you talk about Holmes and Watson. :)

Date: 2008-12-03 11:29 pm (UTC)Heeeee n_n These are good for images of Holmes and Watson. Poor Watson tends to look stupid in a lot of these illustrations, but I tried to find ones where he doesn't.
