Holmes movies: a continuing series

I have completely taken over our Netflix queue and filled it with Holmes movies, and
caitirin is ever so patient with me. The most recent one we watched was The Hound of the Baskervilles (1983) with Ian Richardson. It was pretty good... pretty weird... full of "What did you do THAT for?" kind of plot deviances. And it had a whole bunch of random actors that I recognized!
Doctor Mortimer was played by Marcus Brody! *laughs* And and! Lestrade (amusingly pronounced the French way!) was played by the Nazi from Raiders of the Lost Ark! *sporfle* And random Laura-Lyons-Husband was played by Brian Blessed (also known as Hamlet's father, Robin Hood's father, and... somebody from Much Ado About Nothing's father. Or uncle. I can't remember.)
Poor Watson was kind of *mumblemumble!* a lot ^^;; And wasn't as stupid as I'm sure he's been before, but he was pretty dense. Especially considering that Hound of the Baskervilles has Watson at his best, this was disappointing. ALSO, they didn't think the dead convict was Sir Henry, so there was no dancing-with-joy Holmes upon discovering that it wasn't! And no self-blame and anguish! What's with that?
The guy who played Holmes did a pretty good job, I thought, except for the fact that he was so darn friendly. I didn't really mind that, though, I just thought it was a little weird. He was AWESOME as the gypsy, though XD
There were also some pretty weird changes to the plot that I didn't really see the need for. The original plot made more sense O_o Laura Lyons and Sir Charles Baskerville having an affair? Wuh?
Overall, though, it was enjoyable. Considering that I'm watching these adaptations for Watson (when Jeremy Brett isn't there to captivate my attention - he kind of eclipses Watson no matter how much I love him) it's hard to find good ones, since Watson's not often played as he was written.
