I have a new desktop image, and I have a new header on my LJ! Caitirin made me both :) But she said I had to post this because apparently she thinks I'm funny or something *loves her*

[livejournal.com profile] caitirin: *plays Love is a Battlefield on her computer*
[livejournal.com profile] elaby: That's funny, because I was driving home today and I was all ranty and going "For the love of god, if I have to hear Love is a Battlefield on the radio one more time..."
[livejournal.com profile] caitirin: *looks guilty*
[livejournal.com profile] elaby: No, it's okay! I was just thinking that because the radio stations all go on and on about "Variety, variety, variety!" and all they ever freaking play is Uptown Girl and Love is a Battlefield.

It's the TRUTH. And I really like Billy Joel, but OMG. Yes, I know, you deflower Catholic virgins. And that guy who was "born in a small town" and "learned to fear Jesus in a small town." Shut up already. Jesus doesn't want you to fear him. Dear local radio stations - PLAY SOMETHING ELSE, PLZKTHX.

There's a station called Mike FM, which has no DJs and "plays everything", and they're pretty good. But when they say they play everything, they only sort of mean it. They don't play country or Enya or classical music. They mostly play a mix of 70's, 80's, and 90's rock interspersed with bizarre things I've heard OF but hardly ever heard - like "The Real Slim Shady". That's right, folks - they play Eminem and then five minutes later, Frank Sinatra. So it keeps you interested, at least.

We have a station that prides itself on "playing what we want." Yeah, right. They play the same twenty or so dumb songs that Gen-Xers all remember from their junior high nightmare years, like Pat Benatar and ACDC and Heart. Interspersed with sprinklings of new crap. They used to play ABBA, which I liked, but they don't do that anymore.

We have a DJless station here too. His name is Jack FM.

Too true about the radio stations; I don't listen to radio anymore, if I can help it. Well, except for Pandora.

Wow, my bus driver used to listen to something called Frank FM that sounds pretty much exactly like Mike FM. We got a lot of Portuguese disco.

I really think they must name stations without DJs after people! There's apparently a Jack FM in another part of the country.
