Okay, I don't know how any of you feel about 2012 (short version as I understand it: a cycle of the Mayan calendar ends and sources predict a year of great transformation. Interpretations vary, but apocalypse figures in a lot of the time. Here's the Wiki entry explaining some of the theories.) and I respect the opinions of my f'listies because you're all an intelligent lot - but this quote I found on an otherkin community was FUNNY.

"Yay, Mayans! I always say best not to trust the prophecies of a people who failed to predict the famine that wiped them out."

*giggles*

Not sure whether or not to believe it.

I will be stocking up on canned goods and ammo early in the year, though.

Why am I not surprised you'd be prepared for anything? ^_^

It's just the calendar restarting. It's January 1st over a longer time scale. It's the cycle of a cycle of a cycle (and so on) rolling around again.

That's what I'd heard, and I'm glad to have it confirmed. I didn't want to say anything in case my f'listies believed otherwise, though :)

You do get the whole cyclical "the end turns into the beginning of a new thing/dying-rising/destruction-creation" metaphor going on with other big cycle reboots like this in other cultures, so it's not too surprising that this one has big end-beginning-transition ideas associated with it.

I once read that the world was going to end in 1988, based on a complicated mathematical formula that supposedly was found in Revelations and who knows where else. After 1988 came and went with no incident, I've sort of ignored this sort of thing ever since. ;)

Hee, yes. That's generally how I felt, but I didn't want to say that in the post in case anybody on my f'list thought otherwise :)

I believe hope that there will be a huge consciousness shift in that year. :)

But that quote is FUN-NAY. XD

That would be really awesome! I hope so too. I don't want any mass chaos, which is what a lot of the theories seem to say.
