The weather was gorgeous today, and I found a new place to walk at work! I'm so excited. It gets really dreary just walking around roads and construction sites and industrial buildings, especially when there's nothing growing, but I went down a side road today and found what looked like an abandoned park, or something. There were a few little driveways that went into open fields surrounded by trees, and it didn't seem like there was anything up there at all except two guys and a tractor. It was very pretty, though, and looked more like the area around a housing development than a corporate park. One thing I found that was interesting was a set of wooden stairs going up a hill, and they must have been pretty old because there were two young trees growing up out of the spaces between the first couple of steps! I should drag [livejournal.com profile] caitirin there; it'd make a good picture.

I found the driveway to the water tower where the hawks live, and I think the water tower might not be in use anymore. It's huge, so much so that it doesn't look real, and covered with rust. The pipelines that run from it end after a few dozen feet, so I think it might be defunct. I found some downy grey feathers under the tower and a slightly longer one. I wonder if they were birds that lived on the tower, or if they were birds that got eaten by the hawks.

I also found a path in the woods behind the tower, and I walked it until it came out by the road back near my building. It was a wide path, covered with red pine needles, and the trees inside were all old and gnarled and dead. It was really impressive, like a cathedral. The pine trees creaked very loudly. I also found a long hawk's feather, brown and white striped, but I stuck it in some branches and left it there.

I'm going to have to explore more of the park area some other time :) It was so nice to get out and walk somewhere new.

I need some new icons!

It sounds really cool. I love (somewhat) hidden, out of the way places.

Me too :) It was really neat. I was glad they hadn't cut down all the trees in the area to make room for building stuff :)

Sounds like a beautiful spot. I love your description, as always. *Being motherly and probably irritating here* Just don't go to any really deserted places while you're out by yourself. -_-;;

Haha, I was totally like "OMG, I hope I don't die" when I was wandering around in the woods by myself. The place, as pretty as it was, kind of wigged me out, too. So it's not just you being motherly ;)

I'm glad I wasn't just being paranoid. -_-;; I worry about you wandering about deserted places. *hugs you protectively*
