Duck!

It's raining and miserable today, but still hot in my office. Yay.

So when I got in this morning, there was a duck in my office. No, not the wooden one named Mal with the head that isn't attached - a real duck.

I don't know how the hell it got in, because the window is fairly well taped-up with plastic bags to hopefully make the AC work better, and there's a screen and all... but my supervisor had to work in my office yesterday because her AC unit was broken and it must have snuck in while she had the door open.

It was sitting on the crappy sofa in the corner when I came in, and nearly gave me a heart attack flapping at me in alarm. I'm not used to stuff moving when I come in in the morning. Using the shade-less upright lamp that stands by the desk, I managed to shoo it out into the hallway and down the stairs towards Women's Studies, where I designated it SEP (Someone Esle's Problem). Hopefully it will get outside sometime, because it would sure enjoy the weather more than me ¬_¬

Yet I'm getting more work done than usual. Hm O.o

In [livejournal.com profile] userpicks, they were talking about how Kirk never actually says "Beam me up, Scotty" in any of the Star Trek episodes or movies (possibly in the cartoon, I've heard?). Then someone mentioned that Holmes has never actually said, "Elementary, my dear Watson." I didn't know that one.

Nifty Snopes.com article on "Elementary"

The whole phenomenon of a quote assigned to someone who didn't say it, or a misquote of a famous line, is really interesting. It's like how some people/sources (I'm thinking of an old Loony Tune in particular) think that the line is "Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him well" whereas it is actually "I knew him, Horatio."

Poor Horatio, omitted by years of quoters.

There's a little red light blinking on my phone, and I have no idea why.
