Okay, so we don't watch* America's Next Top Model, but.

Today, the girl they sent home - they sent her home NOT because of her talent or because of any performance she gave in a video/picture/shoot/etc. They didn't send her home because (like another contestant) she didn't listen to the coaches' advice or because she was arrogant.

They sent her home - get this - because she was admitted into the contest as a plus size model and she LOST WEIGHT.

She was no longer fat enough to be plus size (and seriously? This is the model. It's a horrible outfit and hair, but it shows her size better than the other's. And she looks like what, a size SIX?). She's not thin enough to be a regular model. So instead of sending home one of the contestants who, say, didn't pay any attention to their lessons or didn't perform well for the camera or is a total jealous bitch and picks on the others, they kick HER off. For not being thin enough, but not being fat enough. Their reason was that "models are either way thin or plus size, and you're in the middle."

AAAARRG. I don't know why I think mainstream TV would ever try to promote healthy self-images for women, especially in a show like this, but nonetheless this makes me enraged.

*And by "don't watch," I mean we watch it whenever we remember but we don't admit it.

In other, less irate news, we spent a wonderful weekend with [livejournal.com profile] _melisande_ at her Nana's house, writing and playing with doggies and watching lots of Doctor Who (the fourth doctor)! It was really awesome and very relaxing. And I passed 19,000 words!

I was wondering! I didn't think she was doing Nano this year ^_^

She doesn't look plus size to me, either. It makes me want to scream.

Terrible legs, or maybe it's the pose.

I'm not sure what constitutes 'plus' these days. It's an awful lot smaller than it used to be.

Yeah, she's really a beautiful girl, but that picture is rather an awful one - it's just the only one I could find where you could actually see her size and she wasn't half-hidden behind something.

Silly pose, but I don't see anything wrong with her figure, and I am quite sure that if you took a straw poll of the men on my friends list they would quite definitely not have any problems with it. *grins in the direction of Mole* And I don't see how she could be considered to be anywhere near a "plus size".

Seriously. Speaking as somebody who thinks women are attractive, models her size (which I consider pretty darn skinny) are much preferable to the models who are skin and bones.

I truly think that this is what promotes the obsesity epidemic in this country, as well as anorexia. Overweight people look at someone like her and think "WTF? She's a plus-size?" and totally give up. I would much prefer to see women who were at all stages of the weight that encompass a healthy BMI modeling clothes, instead of at the bottom of the range, or below it.

Seriously! And you watch this show, and it doesn't occur to you that this is in any way on the same planet we live on, but then they do something like that and you realize how these people are actually having to live to be a model.
