10110 words! I bet that's something in binary.

*does a jig toward bed*

Sorry. My binary knowlegeable brain is actually a Google knowledgeable brain! I was lost about 5 words into your confusion! :)

Well, I take some comfort in the fact that I'm not alone =) I just wish I could email the teacher and say "look, I'm awesome with the English stuff and obviously you are not. (She says "your welcome" CONSTANTLY) Why don't we call it even. I won't criticize you for sucking at English and you go easy on me for not being able to comprehend this awful subject that you apparently got a doctorate for. kthnxbai"

I wondered to [livejournal.com profile] caitirin earlier if telling her in 1337 that she needed to get laid would earn me any extra credit points. I doubt it. =/

Well, on the lighter side, the simplified Binary Code letter equivalent is 'V' :P ( ie, the 22nd letter of teh alphabet) It's something :P sleep well

And V, in turn, is 5 in Roman Numerals. So really, you've only written 5 words...

And 5 really isn't much more than a squiggle.

rofl, so not where I was going :P But I'll play your game.
I was thinkign more along the lines of V for Vendetta, especially as yesterday was the 5th of November. V is a comicbook, full of pictures, each worth a 1000 words, so in light of that, the novel must be one of the longest ever written at hundreds of thousands of words. Grats! you're done.. over and over again.

Bahahaha, boo on everyone squashing her binary nano count. (And thanks ot them all for making me literally laugh out loud. Only my friends have friends who can actually answer what it is... or hell, know what it is. If I say binary around some of my friends they blink at me and ask if I need a Tylenol.)

CONGRATS on reaching the 1/5th mark!!!

heh, speaking of understanding binary, how much about programming languages do you know? I have a pesky IT question to be answered for class and I'm totally not getting it (nor do I wish to. I have no idea how knowing what the 4 generations of programming languages are and the differences between them and object-oriented programming languages is supposed to help me with my business degree. Or maybe I'm just the "those who don't" in that line =D Can you or someone you know help? *wobbly helpless eyes*

I'm afraid my last IT class was about 6 years ago, so not only am I fuzzy, but also not really up to date. YOu can ask and I can see what I can do about answering, but I can't promise anything.

The actual question is "Highlight the most important differences between object-oriented programming languages and generations 1-4 of (often called top down or structured) programming languages. How are they similar?" and the text is from 05 so it isn't exactly up-to-date either (it covers operating systems that we don't even use anymore, lmao) I'm reading the but I swear I am special ed when it comes to anything that has to do with a science/math-oriented angle. I don't get it. I am not even SURE I know what it is asking. Anyway, it was a long shot but I thought if nothing else you can clarify what the teacher is asking because in my mind, the answer is "Object-oriented focus on the goal of the program and the information that is inputted (that word does NOT look write but spellcheck claims it is so okay) while the GLs 1-4 do not. Their similarities are mainly the fact that OOP is based on C++ and other 3GL." Beyond that, I'm not sure what I'm even saying and the problem with it all, it has to be 200-300 words.

*falls over and twitches a bit* If you can't explain any of that can you at least explain why the hell I need to take an IT class on information systems when I'm getting a business degree? I thought I was going to learn about finances and psychology so I could manipulate my future employees, not learn just barely enough IT crap to confuse me. (Which half of it is insulting because I KNOW what a harddrive is, I know what DOS stands for, and I know how to tap dance my way through enough HTML to build a website... and then the rest is so far from simple that it is mind blowing. There is no in between...) Yeah. *nods* I think after all of the above it is apparent that I am fed up and frustrated. =)

On other topics, how are you? I haven't talked to you since the wedding. Hope everything is well ^_^

Gah, wish I could help more, but I only get this in the distant, fuzzy way. I have a general idea of terminology you're using. We never spoke of language generations, although I've studied some of those in the past, PASCAL, BASIC, VBASIC ( never really C/ C++, that's how backward my program was. Efveryone else had wwitched to C++ ages before, but we were still earning PASCAL...)
Is the difference about the actual programming process? About creating modules and libraries which are portable to other programs as a matter of design rather than chance in earlier generations? It's kind of stream-lined the production of programs, givnig people a lot of "wheels" they don't have to re-invent to include a type of functionality. This includes basic gui interfaces, like check boxes and labeled buttons.
My prof's explanation of a wide degree of people knowing more about computers was basically: if you know what goes into making a program work, you can better tell a programmer who needs to design something for you more accurately what you need, again streamlining the process. There's not much more frustrating on both sides of the table than "I need a fully functionin AI by Tuesday." level of lack of understanding where we are technologically and availability wise. It cuts down on the disappointment factor of "I want X" .. "Um, you'll have to wait a few more decades for that technology to come about." "Oh well, what about X with a blue dress?" "Ugh."
I hope you can find your info. I feel silly not being able to really give a good answer. Parhaps Hak42 could help? She's all in current computer classes and stuff :P

So my problem with the question is that it is poorly worded. Objected-oriented programming and structured programming are techniques of programming. You can do structured programming in C++ if you really want to, but C++ also allows you to do OOP.

Anyway, the big deal with object-oriented programming is that you can segment your program into individual, reusable components that model items in the real world. Why is this cool? Because then your programs are easier to understand, debug and modify. Also, if you are collaborating on a program, everyone can work on separate segments of the program at the same time without needing to know how the other person's component works.

It doesn't really matter that your text is from 2005, the concepts haven't changed all that much. My programming books are from 2001 and I took Intro to Programming back in 2005.

The business world today requires a greater knowledge of and reliance on IT, this is why you are required to take this course. So that you can competently discuss and make decisions on IT issues in your future business.

You are made of so much awesome! This should really help me throw together a coherent answer. Thank you a dozen times over!!

I guess the business degree stuff makes sense, it is just frustrating to me because the material, if it is so important, needs to be better presented and explained. I mean, I'm not an idiot by any stretch of the imagination so a lot of the earlier stuff was easy for me to follow (like when we had to label, describe and explain the purpose of the parts of an actual computer.) But to jump to this stuff just three weeks later seems hardcore when there was very little information in between to fill in the gaps. I'm really intimidated by the final project because we have to actually design a plan, as an IT ... something or other, the type of program, system, function, etc. for a business that they give us an insanely vague description. *sigh* I guess my point is the course is not preparing us to be the business owner to anticipate our own needs but rather it feels as if it is training us to be an IT specialist to anticipate the needs of EVERYONE else.
