Sigmund Freud - analyze this XD

So, the other day I posted that I had this dream about Advent Children, and I said I'd post about it, so here I am. I don't remember much about it in a concrete way, so I'll just put bullet points.

This dream was so freakin' upbeat. I know I was asleep, but it was just so dorky and fluffy by the end that I'm surprised my subconscious made things turn out so nice. There were lots of characters and plot lines that converged at the end. Let's see if I can remember all of them. The setting was generically futuristic, I think. Short stuff I can't remember as well first.

- There was a female robot, the kind with a humanoid-shaped body made of chrome pieces, not an android with skin (he turns up later) that looks like a human. She loved other women, and somehow, by the end of the dream, came to accept this and love herself.

- Data (from TNG) was in it also. He learned to accept himself and knew that his friends loved him just the way he was.

- Brad Pitt was playing a teacher (who was dressed and acted somewhat like Horatio* - shy, geeky, tweed suits) who was gay, but had been ashamed of himself, and one of his students talked to him and convinced him that they all loved him the way he was and that it was a fine way to be.

- There was a large room, like a stadium-seating movie theatre, where a whole bunch of people were being held hostage. A group of Japanese high school kids was among them, and at one point they all got together and tumbled/crowded/were pushed down the stairs of one of the aisles to confront their captors. Among them was a boy who liked to wear a girl's uniform (a skirt with suspenders and a blouse). All his fellow students told him that he should be able to wear that and that they loved him the way he was. Their solidarity and friendship somehow (by the power of Sailor Moon) beat the bad guys.

- Cloud (the only link to FFVII, but the central storyline) was an angel who was masquerading as a demon. He was following Zach and Aerith and some other people around, though they didn't know he was following them. They were in an underground waterway tunnel type place. At some point, he had a beautiful weepy epiphany that he just wanted to be with them, and the person who he was with (who might have been Sephiroth - I know, I can hear your brain shatter from here) was like, "I know you're really an angel. You can stop pretending." And when Cloud asked how he knew, Sephiroth (or whoever) said that he saw Cloud watching Aerith and Zach goofing around with each other, and when he heard Cloud laugh, he knew he wasn't a demon.

So, yeah, everybody lives** and everyone loves you just the way you are!

*My character Horatio, not Hamlet's friend or Hornblower.)
**I am late in the Doctor Who watching, but no less enthralled!

I've written some angel stuff before.

You have? No way! I wanna see~

I was so happy going through my librarything catalog the other day trying to decide which box of books I want out of storage first, I stumbled on this one angel manga I wanted to buy more of but had forgotten the name. Have you heard of Innocent Bird?

I haven't heard of that! But I like angel manga, generally. Earthian and Wish in particular.

If you're interested, [livejournal.com profile] caitirin and I did some writing together (very unpolished) in a writing journal that can be found here:

http://hieroangelus.deadjournal.com/

You'd want to go to the first post and read up from there, though. Caitirin did the angels, actually, and I wrote the "devil" character (who isn't actually the devil, he just sort of thinks he is). It was just for fun, so it's not in any kind of finished form, but we had a great time doing it. Er, it's got dorky badly-done Utena icons from my early iconing days and everything.

Oh, the first volume showed so much potential! The angel is a rebel on the verge of losing his job in heaven and the demon is an escapee from hell where he used to be a powerful noble's sex pet. Hopefully I can find the second one today when I'm at Borders...

Argh, Earthian. One day I'm going to put my Serious Business hat on and try the manga again, but I just couldn't take it when I first tried. It was disappointing and confusing after the anime. And I like 80s-style manga.

Wish was much better for me, though their translation choices still made me grind my teeth a little.

Oh, deadjournal! *laugh*
I'm tam_lin over there, so if you see any comments by someone you don't recognise, it'll probably be me. I'll definitely check it out!

Was it sort of like RP or no?

Er, it's got dorky badly-done Utena icons from my early iconing days and everything.

XD Don't worry about it; three years is a long time.

The manga IS wicked confusing ^^;; Reading the whole thing within a short period of time definitely helped me understand it (as much as I could), though.

Oh, yes. I really wish English didn't need gendered pronouns.

Was it sort of like RP or no?

Yes, it sort of was. Only with just two people who'd write paragraphs back and forth usually over IM and then stick it together and integrate it.

Mostly, though, it just seemed like I was waiting forever and ever for something to happen, and I just finally lost patience.
I should probably buy it before it goes out of print, though.

It always seems you have either too many or not enough in translation.

Ah, okay. *nods* Have done that many a time, so I suspected it might be.

They just brought out a new edition of the whole thing, with new cover art and stuff. I really prefer Yun Kouga's current style over her older one, and she does a couple of short stories in the new edition in her new style.

Oh yeah, that's the edition I started buying and then decided against. I'm still worried it won't be in print for long, though. Maybe just a slash fangirl's paranoia on my part.
If only I had the money to buy all of the books I want to own...

Yeah, I can understand that. It seems like half the stuff I start reading never continues (like Under the Glass Moon... I don't think they translated any more than a few volumes of that).

Was that a vampire manga? I think I'd heard good things about it.

Are you sure there were more to translate? Most of the time when that happens with a series I'm writing, it's because the mangaka took a break (CLAMP--grr--or in Alichino), not because the Tokyopop or whoever wasn't making enough money from it.

Yes, it was! It was really pretty, and it was just starting to get good and plot-twisty and I've never seen another volume. Grar.

Are you sure there were more to translate?

No, actually. I didn't know that it was usually because the mangaka takes a break. I should find this out!
