Okay, guys. Reading a short fanfic led me to this question. It's not necessary to believe that Hamlet and Horatio were shagging like bunnies deeply in love in order to answer this.

Key: "Thou" is familiar/informal/and superior-to-inferior, "you" is distant/formal/inferior-to-superior.

[Poll #937310]

And if you feel like it, explain why in the comments!

Look, I posted a poll! OMG!

Also, this is cute and demented: http://www.kawaiinot.com/

Definitely going to use some icons from there :3

I've sided with the more 'unpopular' option. Just because, although I haven't read it for a LONG while, I'm sure Horatio uses more formal language to Hamlet than Hamlet does him and I find it difficult to believe that that's something one can switch on and off or would want to risk getting into the habit of. I dunno, though ...

Hamlet IS the prince to Horatio's, I dunno, random courtier-and-college-friend. Your answer makes sense to me :)

When I read a young adult book where a girl was masquerading as a boy at this time and apprenticing for Marlowe, it was a big deal at the end when he finally called her "you" because it meant he actually respected her.

Damn, I wish I'd read Hamlet. or watched it.

*guesses*

Now, maybe if they were shagging like bunnies I'd have paid more attention.

HEHEHEHE if you watch the Kenneth Branagh version, Hamlet and Horatio are VERY grabby *grins* And loyal and adorable, etc.

Well, if there is boy action in it, I can see why. ;-)
