Robin Hood, prince of dorks

While I'm working on this bibliography type thing, which is fairly mindless formatting, I'm also watching Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. I was so obsessed with this movie in middle school that even now I could probably quote the entire thing, complete with wordless exclamations and sound effects. Anyway, I was thinking about how I searched everywhere for the novelization, and when I got it, it was way different than the movie. Obviously the guy who wrote it thought he needed to manly it up a bit. There's a lot more violence and devil worshiping than actually figures into the movie, and Robin is hyper-masculine in comparison to Kevin Costner. Here we have an example:

Scene: Robin and Azeem show up at Locksley castle to find Robin's dad dead and hung up in a cage from the ceiling.

Book Robin: *punches the wall in a manly display of anger!*

Movie Robin: *clings to Azeem*

Just for the record, Alan Rickman is indeed the shit (as if anyone doubted this), and Morgan Freeman really does the best "What the hell am I DOING here with these idiots?" look.

Hahahaha, this movie is so bad. *enjoys it thoroughly*

Oh, yes he is. As usual. I often wondered if he and (insert name here of the woman who played Mortiana) sat in the corner and snickered over the antics of all the dumb Americans on the set.

Heehee. He's one American actor who was dignified and not dumb.

And yeah, you're right. I mean, I'm all for the gratutious hugging, but this was such a WEIRD reaction. I guess he'd gotten to know Azeem in the time they'd been together while voyaging from Jerusalem (or wherever they were) to England, but I just found it a little odd for Robin's first reaction not to be, say, falling on knees, staggering, tripping over something - but to be "turn around and bury face in acquaintance's shoulder". It was something a little kid would do. Interesting interpretation O.o
