Well, SOME people do survive... but, as I can see, only two of them O.o

First
on our list is the Duke of Cornwall, one of Lear's dastardly daughters'
husbands. I think he was Regan's husband. I'm not quite sure when or
how he died, but in 4.2 Goneril says something about her sister being a
widow and worries that she has amorous intentions toward Edmund, the
Bastard. Who is only called the Bastard in stage directions O.o Anyway,
on to more death...

Oh, I see how he died... Cornwall put
Gloucester's eyes out with a hot poker for being loyal to Lear (*keeps
wanting to spell that "Lir"... damn Unicorn*) Ew. This is graphic.
*twitch* Anyway, Cornwall is wounded by one of Gloucester's servants,
who himself gets killed for it... so that must be how Cornwall dies. It
just never... says that?

Okay, back on track. Body count - 2.

The
next to join the choir invisible is Oswald, who doesn't appear very
interesting but always starts fights with people. Edgar slays Oswald
when he attempts to kill Gloucester. Oswald is only nifty when he dies
because he gets to say "O, untimely death!" like they say in... some
Beatles song... probably A Day In The Life or I Am The Walrus. One of
those with the weird voices in them. Body count - 3.

There are
actually a lot more PLOTS to kill people in this play than there are
people getting killed... although half of those plotted against end up
dead anyway. People also try to commit suicide and THINK they're about
to die. Death death death.

Next on the list are the evil sisters
themselves; Goneril poisoned Regan out of jealousy over Edmund, then
yerked herself. Body count - 5.

Shortly after (like, twenty
lines shortly) it is learned that Cordelia (the good daughter) was
killed by Edmund's men, because no one could get there to stop them
fast enough. That takes the toll up to 6.

Lear dies next,
absobloodylutely off his rocker and angsting because he was mean to
Cordelia, the only daughter who truly DID love him. Seven.

Apparently
Kent and Edgar are the only two to stay alive... very like Shakespeare,
because they were the real good guys. Cordelia just died for angst
purposes, I think... and in this summary I have, it says Gloucester
also dies, out of grief for thinking Edgar wanting to kill him when it
was Edmund who was the bad one. But I can't find that O_o

So, the body count is left at 7 and possibly 8, if I ever find where it says Gloucester died. What a play O_o
