A 2011 meme
Jan. 2nd, 2012 10:44 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I stole this meme from
coastal_spirit :3 I want to write about my aims for this year, but I'll have to do that later. This was a fun one to do! It's been a zillion years since I did a meme.
1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
I'm actually surprised by the amount of new things I did last year. I travelled across the country by myself. I visited California and attended the concert of a virtual idol. I made an offer on a house. I met Sarah and Jenn in person.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't think I made any. If I did, it was probably to meditate every day, and that's also an aim for this year (thanks, Mum, for the "aim" idea! I like it a lot better than "resolution") so you can see how well that went.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
songtoisis did :)
4. Did anyone close to you die?
We hadn't been close in a long time, but
anonymous_greg's death was upsetting. We'll miss you, man.
5. What countries did you visit?
The U.S., Mexico on our cruise last January, and Canada, for about three hours when we went to Sparkle Wedding.
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
A HOUSE PLS K THNX. (This may be a recurring theme.)
7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 2 was Mikunopolis, and September 30 was Sparkle Wedding. They were both moments of extreme joy on different levels.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
My short story, "The Disappearance of Alice Braddon", was published in A Study in Lavender. I was finally made full time, with a raise and benefits, at my job. I flew to LA by myself XD I consider that an achievement all on its own.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I still have social anxiety and self-worth issues. Someday I'll get my brain straightened out, I swear. I'm working on it.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really, thankfully.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
The ticket to LA. And my new ball-jointed doll XD
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
All of my friends! And my family! They merit continual celebration.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Sometimes my coworkers make it incredibly clear how unlike them I am, and that depresses me.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Bills, rent, bills. Going out to eat *shifty eyes*
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
MIKU. And Sparkle Wedding! And Madoka! And house hunting! And BJDs! And Red Robin! (I know, weird, but good food and road trips with friends = win)
16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
From Y to Y is the song that immediately comes to mind when I think about the Miku concert. I had only heard it once before I saw her perform it, and I fell in love with it after that. JimmyThumb is the man. Other than that, Florence & The Machine will always remind me of this year, tied up with Madoka.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
older or wiser? Well, I necessarily MUST be older. I think I'm wiser, considering the braincrap I was going through last year at this time, which hopefully wouldn't bother me as much now.
fatter or thinner? Hm... about the same? Possibly a little fatter? ^^;;
richer or poorer? Richer, for a change.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Meditate. Draw. Write. Creative things in general.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worry. Try to fix everyone else's problems.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
With Rachel's parents and brother in Colorado :) It was really nice.
22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
I fall in love with Rachel in little ways every day, but I'm also in a continual state of ever-growing love, so it's not like it's something new.
23. How many one-night stands?
Pff, oh, dozens XD
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Puella Magi Madoka Magika, which has taken its place with my top anime EVER. That's a big deal.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I... hope not?
26. What was the best book you read?
I read so many good ones, but I think I'm going to go with Thud, by Terry Pratchett.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Florence & The Machine, probably.
28. What did you want and get?
To see Miku :3 And a BJD.
29. What did you want and not get?
A house.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
There were so many good ones! And I can't remember what I went to see T_T I'm going to go with Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 29, and on my birthday we went out to dinner with my parents. The next day we went to Red Robin and Lush with Calli :3
32. What was one thing that would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Getting a house? Finding out whether or not we'll get the house we put an offer on?
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Turning toward Mori Girl. The year of "NO MORE PANTS!" but there were still some pants.
34. What kept you sane?
Rachel (<-- the big one). Therapy. Vocaloids.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
... Miku?
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
GLBTQ issues - marriage in New York! The earthquake in Japan, if that can be called a political issue. Internet freedom.
37. Whom did you miss?
Our friends who live too far away to visit easily.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
The people we met at Sparkle Wedding were pretty awesome :) I already knew everyone else I spent time with, even if we only met some of them in person for the first time this year.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.
My self-imposed obligation to fix other people's problems not only hurts me, it deprives the other person of the agency to live their life how they choose to live it.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
完全なもんなどもう 何も無くていいよ
等身大でいい、そう、いいよ。 『いいの?』 いいよ。
Even if nothing is perfect, it's okay
It's okay to be who you are, truly, it's okay. "It's okay?" It's okay.
『いいの?』 『いいの?』 いいよ。
"It's okay?" "It's really okay?" It's okay.
