I found this on the ohyeahmorigirl tumblr page. I have yet to figure out what tumblr is all about (*fails at being up to date*), but it's certainly full of cool things.





On ohyeahmorigirl, it says Deep in the rainforests of the Indian state of Meghalaya, bridges are not built, they’re grown. For more than 500 years locals have guided roots and vines from the native Ficus Elastica (rubber tree) across rivers, using hollowed out trees to create root guidance systems. When the roots and vines reach the opposite bank they are allowed to take root. Some of the bridges are over 100 feet long and can support the weight of 50 people.

I'm not positive where this quote comes from, but the pictures came from this tumblr. I want to write a story with bridges like this now that I know that they have a basis in reality. They're so Miyazaki-esque, and when I saw the second picture, I didn't realize it wasn't a photo manipulation. I want to walk on one.

I heard about Mori Girl fashion ("mori" is "forest" in Japanese) from willow_cabin a couple of months ago. I LOVE this style. Elements include neutral and natural "foresty" colors, lots of layers, skirts, one-piece dresses, and a general loose fit with a lack of body-hugging clothing. I just want to draw this on everybody. And wear it XD If you want to see examples of this style, try ohyeahmorigirl and littleforestgirls on tumblr. This is tonight's favorite (and more colorful) example of the style.

I read somewhere that "mori girl" is also a lifestyle - a reaction against the high-stress consumerist culture of urban Japan.

WOW that is the best way of making bridges ever ever. Srsly those pictures look like stills from a Tolkien movie adaptation.

Edit to add: you are totally not the only one who doesn't understand tumblr. I'll find links to cool things people have posted on their tumblr accounts, but then every time I try to navigate around the site I just get more perplexed. What is this question-asking feature! How does one make comments! I dun' geddit.

Oooh, I'd love to see any mori outfits you put together. :) I like it because it's really super-easy and natural-looking but also pretty, and a little bit fairy-ish. :)

I also think that in some instances, but not all by any means, it looks like the female equivalent of the stuff Johnny Depp wears IRL. Maybe I just have him on the brain. ;) Just an impression.

I also have a real hard time finding my way around on tumblr. I just can't seem to figure out how it works. There's so much cool stuff on there, but finding it unless I have a direct link seems to be a problem for me.

That's EXACTLY how I felt about them! :D And that's how I feel about mori girl fashion too. It's such a pretty style, and so natural-whimsical. If I put together any outfits (or draw any XD) I'll post pictures!

That makes a lot of sense to me. From what I can tell, the lifestyle focuses on enjoying life's small pleasures (and, apparently, portraying a fragile and non-aggressive attitude, which makes me raise my eyebrow a little). I really love the clothes :)

Yeah, I have that same problem with tumblr. I think I just don't understand what its purpose is and how it's supposed to be used.
