Today [livejournal.com profile] caitirin and I went to the Deerfield Fair, which is a ginormous farming/livestock fair and carnival near where we live. It's very big - today was the last day, and the cars in the parking lot (well, I say lot, but it's a massive grass-and-mud-filled field) went on seemingly forever. The fair has several different sections: show areas where dogs herd sheep, people show dogs/sheep/horses/cows, oxen pull large chunks of concrete, etc.; crafts for sale and show in barns and scattered amongst the other kiosks; about eighty billion food stands; and carnival rides. We spent most of our time watching the tail-end of a few demonstrations, looking at incredibly nice quilts and other crafts, and wandering about the food places trying to find a funnel cake stand.

Long story short, after passing up fried dill pickles, candy apples, fresh lemonade, onion blossoms, a cheese stand, chicken-on-a-stick, soup in bread bowls, and countless stands selling french fries, cotton candy, pizza, Italian sausages, fried dough, onion rings, hot dogs, and hamburgers... we found the funnel cake place XD

And do you know what else they were selling?

Fried Oreos.

Okay, I have never eaten anything so ridiculously delicious. When we got it, we both were kind of like "..." and I was hoping they wouldn't be too gross. They looked like little hockey pucks made of fried dough, and I don't really like fried dough. But homg. They're like... a hot doughnut with an Oreo inside, and the Oreo is hot as well, so it's become kind of cake-like and frosting is all melty and *waves arms* They were insanely good XD

[livejournal.com profile] caitirin was ecstatic because she got some really cool yarn, and there was a nice little place selling fossils and some stones and I got a beautiful little clear quartz sphere for a very reasonable price. We found another place with crystal spheres and towers, but they were all just thrown into boxes and piled in together, and you had to ask the guy how much each particular one cost, and it didn't seem like the people who were selling them cared at all. The guy where I bought mine told me where it was mined and how to take care of it and everything, and it was much nicer.

We had a really nice day :3

Someone told me the path to destruction was in a fried Mars Bar, which I can almost understand...over here the latest new indulgence is French-fried sweet potatoes, sprinkled with blonde sugar, cinnamon and "secret recipe" which is FRESH nutmeg (sweet, not bitter). And when the organic crowd gets into the act, they throw in these maroon-red yams called the Garnet...(gasps). And...yes...someone...some wonderful, marvelous unknown person...they thought of drizzling warm Sundae fudge and a smidgen of cream over it with bourbon-coated pecans.

Thanksgiving, I suspect, will hit the area with a bang this year...

Ooooh, I'm glad you had a nice day. Fried Oreos sound dreadful, but evidently, they're not. :)

Yay for nice yarn and quartz spheres!

Eeee, that sounds like so much fun! My wife is a great advocate of funnel cake. Sadly, since I doubt anywhere does gluten-free funnelcake, I will probably never get to sample it. :(

Fried oreos sound outrageously yummy.

Did you know the Scottish deep fry pizza?

They sell deep-fried oreos at Rocky's burgers in Newmarket all the time. In case you get a craving for them later.

Deep friend Oreos? That sounds so wrong, but your description made my mouth water!

Sounds like a great time. :)

I have heard of these oddities before, but never had the pleasure of tasting. I'll have to make it a priority now, though...

I'm glad you had such a lovely Sunday!
