Haha! XD I have seriously no idea about whether union underwear were worn all winter or not (although I wouldn't be surprised, and ew). I'm glad to know that there wouldn't be adoption of American fashion; there's so much interesting Victorian-era stuff in the antique stores around here that I've always wondered if the clothes and things I see are relevant to Victorian England or just, in my case, New England.
The Hillbillies-in-long-underwear thing, though, I've totally heard of that stereotype!
