caitirin reported, we went to The Mustard Seed on Saturday and got a bunch of herbs. I also got some new stones :3
Here's my haul, and what one of my nifty crystal books says about them.
First, I'll point out that the majority of the time, I don't buy my stones according to what they mean - I didn't look at the cards that came with these until after I got them. I just buy them based on whether I like them or not (which is most of the time according to how visually appealing I find them). People say things about tingly fingers, about their hands sparking or seeing the stones glow or feeling a pulse or a pulling... but I haven't had any of these sensations. I choose a group of stones based on whether I like how they look, and then I pick through them and see what feelings I get from them. Usually this just comes down to which ones I like better, but this is different from my normal examination of stuff I'm going to buy for flawlessness (I pick things over obsessively). With stones, I just go "Mm, yeah" or "No, I just don't like this one." Maybe it's because it's not smooth enough. Maybe it's because the one in my left hand just feels better. I don't know how to describe it, but I don't get physical sensations. I will note that often (but not by any means always) the first stone I pick up is the one I keep.
Anyway! On to the shinyrocks.
Citrine: I got two pieces, because I couldn't choose between the two. They're all crystalline and tumbled (all of mine are except for one amethyst point) and full of sunlight cracks and rainbows. One has a large section of solid, clear stone and the rest is full of crackly prismatic light. The other one has these interesting right-angle lines duplicated over and over inside it.
According to the little card that came with it, citrine fosters prosperity, creativity, generosity, pleasure, protection, strength, alignment, confidence, healing, and truth. My book says it is a powerful transmitter of solar healing energy and it's an effective remedy for depressive illnesses or phobias. It also says it drives away darkness and night fears, and protects against negative people. It says it helps you distinguish between free-floating anxiety and your inner voice. That's good for me :)
Smoky quartz: The piece I picked is smooth and rounded, almost like one of those glass pebbles. It has glassy swirls inside like bubble trails underwater, and ice-like cracks. It's a very pale clear grey. The card that came with it says it simplifies our lives, and brings stability, practicality, pride, joy, realism, and fearlessness. It teaches us to use our inner guidance systems. My book says it's excellent for gently restoring energy and optimism. It reduces anxiety (yay!) and aids meditation if you find concentration difficult.
Aventurine: The one I picked out has four flat sides and rounded edges. It's pale green with little dark green specks like the lime popsicles I used to eat when I was little. The card that came with it says it enhances prosperity, career success, calmness, creativity, imagination, self reliance, and balance. My book adds that it calms free-floating anxiety and panic attacks, and helps discriminate between what is relevant and what isn't. It helps give belief in your own talents.
Blue Goldstone: I bought this one because it's gorgeous and I rebel against the "if it's not a natural crystal, it's eeeebil" philosophy. Mine has one side full of almost purple-coppery sparkles in blue with a few blank swirls and spots, with the other sides less vibrant but completely full of sparkles. The card says it stimulates deep meaningful dreams with messages, astral travel, and hidden meanings. My book says that it's good for developing your strengths, increasing telepathic powers, and for all forms of star magic.
Red Jasper: Usually I don't buy stones that aren't at least vaguely translucent. My favorites are ones you can see inside. But this piece of red jasper grabbed me a while I was checking out (it helped that all the crystals were 20% off). It's vaguely pyramidal and has a band of grey just above the base, through which light shines. It looks layered, like agate. The red of it also looks swirled as if it were painted on the inside of glass. The card says it stabilizes energy levels and helps create a comfortable pace of life.
My book adds that in Teutonic legend, red jasper makes up the hilt of the magic sword that Siegfried uses to slay the dragon Fafnir (squee, Volsungasaga and Nibelungenlied!). It helps with menstrual problems, circulation to cold extremities, and increases energy and stamina. It helps you get up on cold winter mornings (like this one, yeesh) and helps you "stay cheerful and focused on whatever the day throws at you."
