So [livejournal.com profile] queen_lily_rose mentioned Fell Ponies in one of her posts, and I had never heard of them before. They're mountain and moorland ponies and in the pictures I've seen, have lovely wild long manes and ankle fur (I'm sure there's a term for ankle fur...)

But the first thing I thought when I read the name was this definition of "fell":

adjective
1. fierce; cruel; dreadful; savage.
2. destructive; deadly: fell poison; fell disease.

And I was like O.O Thinking "Is that like... yell hounds? Like a dire pony or something?"

XD Obviously, they mean this definition:

–noun Scot. and North England.
an upland pasture, moor, or thicket; a highland plateau.

And I was just running around looking at random journals on LJ, and I came across some that made me think... what experiences (or personalities) would lead someone to fill their userinfo with defensive warnings about how while they couldn't care less about what someone thinks of them, people better not just read their journal to assume X, Y, and Z and to mock/harass them about it? About how they know everything about A, B, and C and people who don't understand it should just screw off? And then follow this up with tons of credentials, about things they've done and famous people they know and awards and accomplishments, etc.

It would suck to have to assume that everyone who happened upon your journal would view it with belligerence.
