First Kiss drabble #1
I had a whole review of manga Hamlet written last night, and for some reason it wouldn't post to LJ then or this morning before work. Oh well! I'll do it when I get home. *at
caitirin's library now as was let out of work early wheeeee*
I've finished my first drabble response for the First Kiss Meme. It's for
dakegra to thank him for manga Hamlet squee :) His request was "Molly and the Cute Barista" both of whom belong to
dakegra.

“It’s really been the worst morning,” the cute barista said apologetically to Molly as the two of them knelt behind the counter, mopping up cinnamon latte with paper towels.
The barista had caught the edge of the cup on the latte machine’s whipped cream nozzle and Molly’s drink went everywhere. She looked so frustrated right then that she could cry, and so Molly quickly assured her that it was no problem and offered to help her clean up.
“It’s one of the other baristas’ day off,” she continued to explain, “and the other one that’s supposed to be here called in sick. First thing, a woman comes in with a bunch of tiny kids and two of them proceeded to pull all the sugar packets off the service table. Then a guy came in who brought back his cappuccino four times before I got it ‘right,’ and since then it’s been a steady stream of customers.” She sighed and rubbed her forehead with the back of her hand as Molly gathered up the wet, now brown paper towels and dropped them into the bin. “And now all the cookies are done and the baker’s too busy to put them out but I’m too busy to put them out, so they’re piling up over there.” She indicated the counter next to the line of coffee machines.
Molly glanced over at the table where Monty was sitting, turned around in his chair and chatting up a blonde woman in a business suit. He was showing her his Blackberry. Molly turned back to the cute barista and smiled. “Looks like you could use some help. It’s not like I’ve got anywhere to be.” The barista smiled back like the sun had come out.
About fifteen minutes and two dozen customers later, Molly placed the last cookie in the glass case and threw away the wax paper she’d been using to handle them. “All done!” she said. The barista peered over into the case.
“Oh, it’s perfect! Even arranged more nicely than I usually do it. I don’t know how to thank you.”
Molly shrugged. “It was the least I could do, with you looking so frazzled.”
“Oh!” the cute barista said, grabbing a cup. “I completely forgot about your latte! Let me get it for you, on the house.” Before Molly could say anything, she whipped up an expert cinnamon latte and handed it to Molly. As Molly took it, the cute barista raised herself up on her tiptoes and kissed Molly on the cheek. “Compliments of me,” she said softly, turned red, and scurried back to the counter to wait on another customer.
Molly stared after her for a minute, blinking, the drink in her hand completely forgotten. She felt heat rise in her face as the surprise was replaced by a sort of accomplishment, and she went back over to Monty’s table. The businesswoman had left.
“What took you so long?” Monty asked. Molly was still staring over at the counter.
“Huh?”
Monty nabbed the latte and leaned back in his chair. “You were up there for the better part of a half-hour.”
“I was helping the barista clean up some spilled coffee,” she said, sitting down. “She’s by herself today and needed the help.” Monty looked at her suspiciously.
“Supplementing your income, eh?”
“Yes, well,” Molly said pointedly, finally paying full attention to him, “I really sort of have to, don’t I? And anyway,” she continued, “she didn’t pay me.” Molly paused. Not in money, anyway.

More to come as I finish them, because these are FUN and everybody's giving me great challenges ^_^
