It's time for another art post! With actual colored pictures this time! Shock and amazement, I know!
This is a commission for the lovely
adrith of her and another player's characters in an online RPG. They were fun to draw as well as to color :)

This is the picture I did for
caitirin for Valentine's Day. She requested something like it for her birthday last year ^^;; And I just got around to drawing it. It's Cai, sleeping (all NEKKID HEE HEE). I like her hair the most.

Here's a weird-looking child who didn't come out very much the way I was planning. I was trying to do a Nausicaa-esque Ghibli chibi in a shapeless dress with little stubby legs, but this one just came out kind of odd. Eh, oh well.

And to comfort myself that I could draw a random not-already-established character that didn't come out looking bizarre, I drew a mermaid-type fish person. With boobies.

And, of course, Link! More Link! I was experimenting with poses.

Finally, I always wanted to do one of those "Improvement over time" series things that artist types do. This is a character I played for a very short time on an AOL message board creatively called Medieval Sim. Her name is Gyastaria and she's a glaistig, which essentially means she's got goat legs. Glaistigs might be vampiric. They sometimes herd sheep for people if they're feeling nice. Anyway, all I remember about her was that her entire island had been wiped out (yes, I was like 14). I have a really old picture of her and one from a few years ago, so I thought I'd do one now and make a set.
This is the oldest one. I hadn't even started to draw anime-style yet. Isn't that lightning awesome? e_e I also only drew on lined paper, because it helped me with proportions. I think this was from around 1997 or '98.

This one is probably from 2000 or early 2001. The anime style has taken hold, but my inking is pretty crap. And her arms are too long, her face is all weird, etc. etc.

This one is from 2007 (the other night at Gaming, actually). The anatomy has definitely improved, as have things like hair. I even sort of drew a background! That's a treeish root-like thing behind her, in case you're wondering. She's leaning against it.

That's it for the arts! I want some ice cream. *goes to find some*

And your arts have SO improved leaps and bounds.

Date: 2007-03-05 01:18 am (UTC)Cai's hair is really beautiful, both in movement and color. I love her hand (and I know how much trouble you have with hands). It looks so realistic, in such a "sleeping" position. And her blanket looks like flowing water. It's great.
It's interesting to see how your art has evolved. It's like watching a manga artist change their style gradually over time. The first one is of course very rough, so it's amazing to see how much you had improved by 2000 or 2001, but the recent one is just amazing! The hair, face, hands, dress and feet are wonderful: very detailed, and very much "your" style. I would recognize your artwork anywhere; I think your style is very distinctive, even with the "anime influence".

Date: 2007-03-07 07:10 pm (UTC)I'm also really glad that you think I have a distinctive style. I like that idea. I was surprised at how much I improved from the first to the second drawing, but I feel like I haven't improved much lately (not from the second to the third, but from things I drew in the middle of college to now). I got an anatomy for artists book in Salem the other day, so I'm going to be working on that :)
