Dear Yuletide Writer
\o/ I managed to satisfactorily sign up for Yuletide! Woot! Something went a bit wiggy with my offerings, and a couple of them show up on the list more than once, but as they're all things I'm delighted to write, I think it'll be just fine. So I thought I would post my Dear Yuletide Writer letter before Nano gets too crazy! Off we go...
Dear Yuletide Writer:
First, and foremost: OMG, SQUEE, THANK YOU XD
That is to say, please be assured that I will absolutely adore whatever you write for me. I'm in this for the squee and the joy, and that's what I'll get out of it. Don't stress over this, and please have fun! Because I can promise that I will :D
In terms of ratings and stuff to keep away from - to get it out of the way and make way for the squee! - if the fic you write for me would be rated under PG-13 sex-wise, I'll be happy. Violence and swearing don't bother me as long as they're relatively in-character, so no need to worry about that. In terms of relationships, I'm good with anything from gen through friendship through kissy-touching-huggy-love. I'm a total sucker for hugging, actually XD With these requests, I'm not very interested in het romance, though.
After those generalities, here are my specific prompts:
Arthur Conan Doyle - Sherlock Holmes series: G Lestrade
I am an unabashed Lestrade fangirl. I love his snotty self-satisfied stucked-up-ed-ness, and I love how his relationship with Holmes evolves over the series from rival to friend. I love how he knows how to accept defeat with grace even when he was insufferably smug only five minutes before. My favorite stories are those in which Lestrade, Holmes, and Watson work together and get to demonstrate their mutual respect. From snarkiness to awkward fondness to serious arguments to unexpressed affection, I would love anything exploring the relationship between Lestrade and the boys from Baker Street. I would also be happy with just Lestrade and Holmes, or just Lestrade and Watson. Lestrade observing Holmes and Watson's relationship would be awesome too.
Raymond Chandler - Philip Marlowe series: Philip Marlowe
Oh, Marlowe! He's my favorite hard-boiled detective who was actually written in that era, and I think it's because he feels so much. He's really affected by everything that happens to him, and it's so obvious that he tries not to let it all get to him, but he pretty much fails miserably most of the time. His brief interaction with Red Norgaard was amazing and made me nearly faint with joy - Marlowe's confession of his fear, the bond they developed only within those few minutes, the hand-holding (yeah, I'm a sucker for hands, too, like hugging.) Marlowe's relationship with Terry Lennox is similar (though much angstier) because he got so very attached to him in spite of his protests to the contrary. I would love any exploration of his relationship with either of these men, friendship or romance.
E W Hornung - Raffles series: A J Raffles/Bunny Manders
I just discovered the wonderful world of Bunny and Raffles, and oh boy, is it wonderful. I'm quite convinced that they're romantically involved, although I don't need the fic you write for me to be romantically inclined if you don't want to write it that way. Any interactions the way they are in canon would make me happy. My favorite stories are ones in which Raffles does nice things to Bunny, or apologizes sufficiently for being a jerk, and in which Bunny proves himself and shows how smart and competent he can be. I would also be totally happy with absolute fluff when it comes to these two XD
Arthur Conan Doyle - Sherlock Holmes series: John H Watson/Sherlock Holmes
Holmes and Watson are my most recent world-altering obsession. My personal opinion of them is that they're life-mates who are romantically attached but not necessarily sexually involved. However, I would be completely delighted by anything that has to do with their relationship as long as it doesn't go over a PG-13 rating or so (that is, kissing and touching is fine, but about as much as I want to see). So, gen or romance, I will love anything with Holmes and Watson interacting. The fact that their relationship is very far from perfect is one of my favorite things about it - they have trust issues, just to start - and I love explorations of their difficulties, from Reichenbach to Watson's marriage to Mary Morstan to Holmes's cocaine addiction. Ooh, and I prefer stories before Holmes's retirement. That's the only constraint I can think of.
If you have any questions at all,
caitirin is my wife and would totally answer any that you have. Again, thank you so, so much, times a bazillion! I can't wait to see what I receive from you! I will love it SO much, I know it!
